Church is a time to be strengthened in the community of Christ...not a time for looking the part.

If people live like a hoodlum and come to church because they truly wish to repent...then they are far better than those trying to look good and simply use church as another way to polish their already (outwardly) sparkling lives.

I would say the fronting needs to stop, but I would also question your definition of a Christian...If you think it is your place as a Christian to dictate what your definition of right and wrong would be...then you need to go to church to find your place within the community of Christ...If you define being a Christian as one who is not here to judge others, but simply here to help...then you are all good.

Merry Christmas

Because this is how 80 of the 85% of Americans that profess to be Christians live their life.

Everyone wants to accept the free gift of salvation and forget that in order to be truly free and no longer a captive to sin is to have Jesus move into your heart and become the Lord of your life. If Jesus is truly the Lord of your life then you are trying to live a life based on the New Testament examples of how to reflect, represent and honor God through our thoughts and choices. This also means that we accept that we are not perfect and that it is God who changes us from the inside and not our own efforts. It is when we submit to Lordship and humble our self to be less so that Jesus can be more that we actually are able to live life more abundantly.

Somehow this truth has been lost in the churches across America. Satan has done a great job of stealing the value and identity of what it really means to be a "child of the Living God".

I live like a Christian 7 days of the week, and I dont attend church.

Sometimes the people who dont act the best during the week are the ones who need the guidnace of fellowship the most.

To some it isnt about fronting, its about connecting and building a relationship with the Lord, if we were all perfect in our walk of faith, why would we need Church?

"Excellent question. I love to go to Church. When I was little we had Church all day, I'm from the south. We would break for lunch and have it outside the Church, everyone brought something to eat and or drink. We sang and praised God all day long, it was great. We made things, took turns helping with the younger Children and infants. It was like a family reunion once a week. Awesome. But now I no longer attend services as too many hypocrites sit and praise God and before they can get to their car they gather in the parking lot to gossip. The Bible says "wherever two gather in my name this is my house,Gods house, so I talk to him in my home and anyone is welcome to attend. No gossipers please, lol......

Many people behave as you say. Sometimes it just following tradition. More often it's about community networking, business contacts, and the fashion parade. Still when you hear the talk it sometimes sinks in after a while. I'm in the same boat as a previous answerer. I try to practice the basic tenants of respect, love, and generousity daily but never seem to actually go to church. I haven't found one that feels like home to me as an adult.

As Keith Green said once "Going to church does not make you a christian, just like going to McDonalds' doesnt make you a hamburger"

-Those who think they are saved by going to church, are in for a rude awakening- it is not by works we are saved, but by the grace of God, through faith alone in Jesus Christ- as it says in Ephesians 2:8
We should be living for the Lord every single day and spending time with Him every single day...and when you are saved you want that! I know I do! Even if I dont spend time in my bible one day I know that I wish I would of- and prayer is so important!! Of course fellowship is too, going to church and bible study. This is what keeps us grounded in the Lord Jesus- and keeps us from straying from the truth. I know I need to be reading my bible A LOT more during the week...I love what God has to teach me~

A very good question, glad you brought it up.
Force of habit, hypocrisy, and the fact that one can go to confession the night before and be forgiven for ones sins. This enables that person to be able to impress upon you that they did their weekly duty of going to church, or mass.

We are to live out our DAILY lives as Christians. To do as was mentioned in the question would make a person a hypocrite.

Good question. Some Christians don't really understand the commitment required to be real disciples.
