I have a credit card that I've had for almost a year. I had 0% interest for a year. I always pay well over the amount due. In October my payment was 2 days late. This caused me to lose my 0% interest and they raised it to 30% for 12 months. Any suggestions on how to get this payed off now?

Call and tell them to change your rate back to 0%. My fiance was able to do this. Explain that you were only 2 days late and that is ridiculous. Don't ask them to, tell them to. You must be authoritative in order to get anything accomlished through cc companies. Threaten them that you will close the account and transfer the balance to another cc. If they won't change it and you do qualify for those other offers, transfer the balance.

Also, since you've had it for almost 1 year and still have a balance, you need to do a balance transfer anyways.

I would definitely try to open a new card and do a balance transfer assuming the new card has 0% APR on balance transfers. Your credit should be fine if you were only two lates. Apply for that new card asap, and in the application, enter the account number and balance you would like transferred to the new card. If you apply for a Citi card you'll see this in the online application, and there's no fee. Do keep in mind that it takes two weeks or so to post, so continue paying your bill on time.

since the payment was only 2 days late contact the credit card company and ask them to look at your excellent payment history and to reconsider their decision about raising you to 30%. It's worth a try.

The only thing you can really do is call them about it. If they say there is nothing they can do about it threaten to close the account unless it is fixed. If you have a good record with them they should listen to you. That does work sometimes.

just had this experience myself...call the cust service and demand the orig rate be returned, or you will sign up for one of the hundred other zero rate cards that came in the mail this week. talk to a supervisor if necessary...if they persist, do it.

I would close my account. They always try to get as much as possible from you!
