Which photo program can you use to cut out a picture and place it on another background? I have HP photosmart premiere and Irfanview but I don't think either of these will do it? Hopefully something free or cheap... THANKS

To do what you want, you need to find a program that allows you to work with 'layers'. You take a picture in one 'layer' and place it over another 'layer' and thus you end up with a composite. You can put your head on someone else's body, or you can paste a picture of you standing in front of the Great Pyramids or somewhere else exotic. Layers are way cool!

First, I recommend Adobe Photoshop Elements. I used version 3 for a couple of years and it was great. The current version is 5 and it is also great. The price is not bad, around $80, and it does so much more than just work with layers. You can adjust color problems like too dark or too light pictures, and you can even take a picture of your house or car and see what it would look like as a different color.

If $80 is too expensive, you can try a couple of free programs. The best free one is probably "The GIMP". You can read about it and download a copy from www.gimp.org

Another free program is PhotoPlus. I haven't used it, but it has good user reviews. You can get it at www.download.com. Just search for PhotoPlus.

Like I said, search for a photo program that uses 'layers'. That is one of the most powerful features you can get.

Macromedia Fireworks
So much better than Photoshop
Made by the same people but Fireworks is for businesses, Photoshop is for the public.
Fireworks has many more features and it more professional than Photoshop.
