When it is that time of the month for me I get lazy and have a lot of bad cramps. I started my exercise program 3 weeks ago (toning up my legs and butt mostly)- I go running and do squats and other leg and butt exercises, but are there any alternatives that I can do when it is that time? I know I will be too tired and not in the mood, but I don't want to break this habit I have going. Any advice would be nice. Thanks.

I get bad cramps too. I just take some Advil or Midol a couple hours before I go to the gym, and if I still feel lazy, I do a stationary bike (recumbant) or the rowing machine, so I can sit down.

I prefer to do yoga during that time. The only thing you should skip are any yoga moves that put your legs in the air. It can increase blood flow (and well, who wants that?) I find you still get the muscle toning, but you also get relaxed and releife from the cramps by doing a nice yoga routine.

If I feel really tired I just cut back the intensity of my work out but I keep the duration the same. Plus a good work out will relieve cramps

Pilates is great for menstrual cramps and related issues, in my experience. It doesn't involve a lot of exertion, and the back is usually well-supported. But it definitely works the abs and massages the internal organs.
