I accidentally removed the button that minimizes all open windows from the Windows XP quicklaunch toolbar (the one by the "start" button). How can I find the shortcut to put it back in the quicklaunch?

You can recreate the shortcut using the following method, but keep in mind that you can also minimize all windows by holding down the Windows key (between Ctrl & Alt) and pressing either the 'm' or 'd' key.

The icon is actually a small windows script which you will need to recreate in notepad. To start notepad, do one of the following:

Start > Run > type in 'notepad' & click OK
-or-
Start > All Programs > Accessories > Notepad

Now type (or copy and paste) the following 5 lines of text (and ONLY these lines) into notepad:

[Shell]
Command=2
IconFile=explorer.exe,3
[Taskbar]
Command=ToggleDesktop

Once done, save the file by clicking File > Save. There are three important things to remember when saving the file:

1. Name the file 'ShowDesktop.scf' or something similar. MAKE SURE you use the .scf extension or it will not work.

2. Make sure you change the 'Save as type:' option to "All Files" rather than the default text document.

3. Remember where you save the file! You may save it anywhere that is convenient for you, but I suggest somewhere out of sight such as C: or C:\Windows.

Once you've saved the script, close notepad. Now open the folder where you saved the file (If you saved it in C:\Windows for example, open My Computer > Local Disk (C:) > Windows). Find the 'ShowDesktop.scf' file and drag it to the quicklaunch area of your taskbar (the small icons next to the Start Menu). This will create a shortcut to the script which will run whenever you click it.

Good luck!

You need this utility to restore your show desk top button.

It works fine. I removed my "show" button and rebooted the computer but it was still gone. Then I used this and the "show" button is back.
