Dear Dr. __________,
Your caring, skillful hands have healed the very soul of me, ending a period of darkness so vast that it engulfed what should have been my life. You have opened up the very real possibility of a future for me, something I did not know if I would ever have. For that, words fail me when I try to think of how to thank you. How can you thank someone for literally giving you life? How can you make someone understand that what they do -- and perhaps think of as just a profession, just making a living -- is that they really give someone the precious gift of seeing the world brand new? I thank you for my new life and my new world. I will never forget the impact you have had on me, and I promise never to take one minute of it for granted. You will always remain in my prayers of gratitude.
Sincerely,

Speak from your heart. The best way to let someone truely know how you feel is if you tell them! Explain to him why this surgery has changed your life, and all the things that you will now be able to do because your going to live to do it, and all the things you can do because you wiegh less. Don't use a poem or words from somebody else, because those aren't your feelings!!! good luck and congradulations!!

You use the words which come from your heart and out of your mouth. Do not use words from another, only you FEEL what needs to be said..and most often, a simple heart felt "Thank you" and a hug are all that is needed.

There is no gift more precious than one's health.
Happiness must rest upon that ground.
Alight with pain, no pleasure can be found,
Nor joy in love or beauty, words or wealth.
Know that I am grateful for your skill,
Your sensitivity and dedication.
Out of strength, I dreaded all sensation
Until your healing touch restored my will.

A thank you card with a message telling him how you appreciate that he went the extra mile for you and how you feel that he helped you so much.

Try buying a "friendship" card. They are pretty good. They say stuff like you were there for me and things like that. They show lots of appreciation too.

Shock him, don't do anything that everyone expects you to do, like saying thanks etc, but make him something. Surprise him with something he never would have imagined. Make him a collage of pictures of your years with this problem and the new you together. That would be icing on the cake.

Go to the store and buy him a card. That's it. I am sure you are grateful, but that would be the appropriate thing to do. Don't buy him anything. After all....it is his job to do exactly what he did for you.
