Of course they do. The rooster is necessary only to get fertilized eggs, not for eating but to get new chicks.

Yes. Hens will lay eggs even if there is no rooster around. The rooster mates with the hen to fertilize her eggs, just the same as a man fertilizes his wife's eggs to make a baby. Depending on the breed, hens will start laying fromm 4-6 months of age. The commercial layers such as the Pearl Leghorns or the Rhode Island Reds will all start laying at about 4 months. You don't have to do anything different - it just starts naturally. I'm a poultry farmer.

Yes, hens lay eggs without a rooster. If you want your hens to sit on eggs and hatch them you will need a rooster. The eggs w/o a rooster are not fertile. Hens need lots of sunshine or light to lay eggs. Find a site on the Internet and read up. Remember that they need grit to pulverize their food. Also, if you are not sure how old the eggs are put them in a glass of cool water, if they sink they are fresh, if more than a half inch or so sticks out of the top of the water they may be bad. Crack the ones that stick out in a bowl by themself. If they float more than half way out, throw them out, they are stinkers.

Yes, they lay, eggs but will not develop in chicks without a rooster. Don't you think this is a lame question? Here, you have an opportunity to broaden you knowledge. Surely your could come up with a more provocative question. Think about it.

chickens will lay eggs naturally. If they are egg layers that is. Some are just for meat. We have chickens and they do lay eggs and our rooster is no longer around. The rooster's job is to fertize the egg if you want baby chicks. But without the rooster you can be sure that when you crack open your egg from breakfast that a chicken fetus won't plop onto your frying pan!

If you want eggs for eating, you will not need a rooster. If you want eggs that hatch, you still have to have a male and a female to make offspring unless you are doing it in a laboratory.

yes they do, i grew up spending alot of time on a roster/chicken farm,(redneck trying to be all tech, lol, i know, lol,) but the roster can help alot if you want more chickens or to help keep other preditors away at times they will fight a fox, i know a japanease roster will kick the foxes butt if he see's the fox. its inhearent in the rosters nature to protect the femals at all cost.-consider this, may not be a bad idia dude. also, they used to breed the chickens, and get alot of eggs and sell boath the baby chicks and the eggs and they made good maney doing that and they were the best tasting eggs i ever had.

you do not need a rooster. your chicken will need to have a roosting place and quite for her to lay her eggs. If you want to have baby chicks you will need to get a rooster but beware they are loud.
