Can someone explain to me about using system restore in the system tools and what it does. Also when should you need to use it if ever?

System Restore basically makes a copy of the most important parts of your computer, including important Windows files. One of these copies is called a Restore Point.

A Restore Point is automatically created when Windows is first put on the computer, and others can be created by using the System Restore program.

At any point, someone can choose to restore one of these Restore Points, with the intended effect of restoring their computer to the same state as when that restore point was made. You would want to do this if your computer suddenly stops working, and you want to restore it to a working state again. In my experience, though, this should only be a temporary fix! Many things are not fixed by the System Restore program, only the most important parts. If the restore does work, I would suggest taking the time to immediately backup your valuable files, since there's no guarantee that the computer won't stop working again. The thing that broke it the first time can break it again just as easily! After backing up your files, have someone take a look at the computer to try and fix it in a more permanent manner.

Hi Doug,

System Restore is a windows utility provided by MS and is a component of the Operating system.

Performing a Sys Restore will take your PC back to a specific date / time.

Ex: If you are facing some issues with your PC after installing particular software or after downloading a software update, you can use the system restore feature to go back to the date / time before the software / update was installed. In other words you are rolling back your PC to a date when the issue was not persistent.

NOTE : System Restore does not effect the user data(Data Files which have been created), however all the software and software updates installed after the restore point will be lost.

It is a good idea to:

1. When things are running smoothly, create a system restore and make note that all is well.
2. Definitely, before installing a new program, create a restore date and make note that it is prior to installing whatever. If, after a while the program gives you trouble, you have something to return to.
3. If the new programs works properly, create a restore date and make note again that whatever is o.k.

I can't tell you how much aggravation you will save yourself by doing this.

It restores the system to a previous date. Yes, it is a good way if you don't want to do a operating system reinstall.

system restore takes all your files and programs and settings from a certain point in time called a restore point and restores them because windows doesn't really delete them until they've een overwritten 7 times, so it restores them and then any new files you have will stay on there so it'sa basically setting the time clock on your computer backwards i used to fix my media center when it started crashing.

*lights cigarette* equipment fix isn't possibly time holiday because of the fact all you're doing is reversing movements that have been performed before - time holiday could be ordinary if there replaced into something recording us, yet there's no longer something that all of us comprehend of. So the closest we can get to time holiday is the 13:00->12:00 Heathrow Airport to LAX. BQ: in case you have uni the next day, an incredible 9 hour kip could specific be of earnings, even with the undeniable fact that that's as much as you.
