Before Judas humans had to make blood sacrafices to God, or God would have them killed, and tortured for eternity because they didn't worship Him enough.
Then God decided to have His only Son killed and tortured so now all we need to do is believe that it really happened.
Without Judas, this change in rules could never have happened.

I think your giving Judas a little to much credit there. Did you ever think that God already had that in his plan. God already knows what is going to happen and for the reason that it will happen. God just didn't go with the flow and then say Let me send my son into the world to save the people from their sins, God had that already in his plans.

Well, that's a new twist. I think God could have used any one for the disciples to betray Jesus or even someone else. Maybe you are giving Judas a little too much credit.
