Dear friend,

I think u must ask this question to them with all due respect to the religion.

I was born jain , but i can not explain u all in detail as i have never asked this question to anyone.
1) they dont eat roos grown under the ground.
2) roots have millions of microorganisms thriving in there.
(all the roots which touch soil directly .)
so peanut is not a root itself.
let them follow what they think is right ! or else u ll have to study jainism to know every detail of the religion.
Jainism had loads of interesting researches available to mankind before birth of science.
bye .

Their goal is to avoid bad karma that will cause them to have a nasty rebirth in the next life. I don't remember anything about things underground -- maybe it hurts worms and things when they dig it up? But, of course, some Jains are more strict about what they can do than others. Some Jains don't wear clothes because of the harm it can cause living things. And others just live their lives without thinking too much about the effects it will have later.

Never heard of that before. Didn't understand they eat stuff grown under the ground. Like potatoes, onions, peanuts.
Or everything has to be grown above ground? Like just about everything. Do they eat meat? Or just not root vegetables?

If they're happy, what does it matter? I won't start caring what they don't eat until they start blowing me up because i eat it.
