If you are using XP or above (which im sure you are) just go to start -> run then type in msconfig
This will bring up the system configuration utility, from there choose the startup tab and look for any references to internet explorer, usually iexplore.exe i think.
DO NOT UNCHECK EXPLORER.EXE THOUGH BECAUSE THAT IS A VERY IMPORTANT WINDOWS COMPONENT

Start - Run - type in "msconfig" (without the quotes) & okay. Pick Startup Tab, remove the tick from beside the program & restart. It won't run on startup any more.

Check your startup menu to see if it is listed there.
To do this: cl Start, cl Settings, cl Taskbar and Start Menu.
-cl Start Menu, cl Customize, cl Remove.
-cl the icon for the program you wish to remove
-then cl Remove.
-This will prevent the program from loading at startup, but will not remove the program from the hard disk.

Un-install IE7 and you will have no more problems. IT companies are advising their clients not to install IE7 at home as it still has too many kinks in it for home use - wait a few months then re-instal.

Possibly some application is attempting to connect to the internet and launching your browser; check for spyware (?)
