Try ordering a Venti Hammerhead. This is a large coffee with two shots of expresso. You will be wired for hours!

I completely understand what you're saying. Some people get really throw by the whole 'coffee ordering' process. There's steamed, iced, skim....arrggh! If you've never ordered before it can be pretty confusing. ;)
There's a huge selection on the menu directly behind the counter and the barista. Choose accordingly to your tastes, because others can't decide on your palate. Their new Christmas blend is a very robust strong blend (which I don't care for). The lighter tastes are going to be any of the lattes or cappucinos as these usually have chocolate, caramel, ginger, etc. in them. Iced coffees are excellent, but best saved for summer or spring as they aren't really warming on a blustery day.
A real fun idea would be to get a big group of friends together and have everybody order something different, get little cups, and try a bit of each one. =)
*If you just want regular old cup of joe I sugggest you go to a regular coffee shop or gas station. Mostly they are better on their 'frou-frou' drinks*

Starbucks really only has three kinds of coffee--evil, demonic, and vile. Oh, no wait, all of their coffees are all three...
Seriously, at a store like Starbucks, you order in sizes: "I'd like a tall regular coffee." Or "I'd like a Grande decaf coffee."
