I asked this question a while back and everyone who replied said " ber Nards" after speaking to several people who in fact attend St Bernard's church, and one whose husband is the principal at St Bernard's I found that the correct pronunciation is Ber nerds so you nerds are not all that smart!

My Catholic elementary school principal in Queens, NY
was Sister Mary Bernard and it is not
Bern nard.

She pronounced it burn erd

I didn't answer this question on Yahoo, but I would have said Ber Nards. Thanks for the correction, its strange though that the spelling its the same as the way its said.

In England they say
sunt BER-neds

In America they say
Saint Ber-NARD

There you have it.
