You absolutely have to go to Lao Sze Chuan! It isn't even close.
This restaurant was featured on "Check Please" which is a television show on local channel 11 that often features some of the best restaurants in Chicago. http://www.wttw.com/main.taf?p=1,5
I ate here and it is hands down the best chinese food I have ever had. However, the line was out the door and we waited for 45 minutes for a table (well worth it)! I highly recommend the 7-Spice Chicken. It was wok-crispy and incredibly tasty. The Mongolian Beef was also excellent. Very fresh.
We also had the Sesame Chicken which I didn't care for...only because it was swimming in sauce. I like my entrees with little sauce and crispy. Get the 7-spice chicken instead.
We also enjoyed the complimentary relish tray before the meal. Be careful though it is very spicy!

Always a lot of options - what kind of food, Dim Sum or Mandarin; do you just want good food or is the atmosphere important, etc.
But here are a few suggestions:
Lao Sze Chuan Spicy City - Mandarin; Szechuan
Happy Chef Dim Sum House - Dim Sum
Emperor's Choice - Seafood
All three are reasonably priced, but if you are looking for something cheaper, check out the store-front restaurants nearby. Chinatown is small and everything is within just a couple of blocks. If you see a place that looks interesting, walk in. If they do not speak English, just have them start bringing you food. 99% chance it will be good.

There are sevral adequate restaurants in Chicago's Chinatown, but I don't know of one that would be considered really good.

I'm very fond of Joy Yees, it is pan-asian and excellent with huge portions as well as having multiple locations in Chinatown, Evanston and someplace else... and the most amazing fresh fruit bubble teas ever!
