I just got 2 semi wild cats last Thur, they are 8mths old. I have been told to keep them in for 3 weeks so they know this is their new home! I have them outside in the boiler house but the problem is that everytime I go in to feed them, they hear me comin and scatter to hide! I try not to make loud noises and just gently put down their food and water. I dont want to go moving the things they are hiding behind as i feel it may scare them more. How can i make them more social ?? Also im worried that after the 3 weeks i may leave them out and never see them again!! I plan on putting a catflap in the door for them.

Ferral cats are hard to tame, putting them in the boiler house will scare them too, you should have them in your home so they can get used to your sounds and smells and voice. My kitten was scared of me, now she runs to me, she knows my voice and my smells and trusts me.

It takes time, just lots of love and affection. They will learn you're the one that feeds them. Try putting food in your hand and holding for them to eat so they know you are nice to them, they will eventually come to you to eat it . As far as they know you're this big wild animal who come in, it's natural for them to hide. They think you're gonne eat them.

Hope it goes well. x

Here's what you do, Bring something like beef, or meat from a chicken, or soft food, and set with the good smelling food between your legs. Eventally the cats will become curious and come sniff out the food. Do this everyday for a week or so, and then while they eat, start slowly and pet them. You also want to spend a lot of time with them, even though they may not be in direct contact with you, they will get use to you being around. I had a kitten dropped off at my house that was like this, and it took him 3 1/2 weeks to get use to me. Now he is 10 years old and the best cat I could have ever asked for.

The only way to socialize a wild animal is to first stay with it as much as you can it will come out of hiding as long as you do nothing . Just patience and waiting and they will come around but if you continue to just put down water and food they will only know you as their basic need and will not socializ with you and yes they may run off but have learned where their food and water source is and will return for that purpose only. so if you want them to befriend you it will take time and patience and lots of sitting around till they feel sfae enough to come out then again do nothing but sit they will come closer then and only then may you try to reach and pet or just brush against fur when they see you wont be a threat yes they will start to socialize. If you don't have a job that keeps you away that is good but I'm sure you do so it can take time away from them that will make it harder to do because they grow so fast. so that is about all I can help you with. I did have a wild cat and this worked for me. I was scratched and swatted at but eventually he gave in after a brushing episode with a cat brush. He found out how good it felt and I won. It is a long battle that you have so little time to win. Leaving them alone is not the answer you have to be there with them as much as possible

DO NOT let them out until they are spayed or neutered
build a CAT RUN out of 2 x 4s and chicken wire - put this next to your house with window access for them...
they need the dry and water all the time.. but you can trick them to being your friend by bringing them nice yummy canned food.. which they only can have when you are there.. take any uneaten with you when you leave.. at first you will have to sit quietly away from the food.. but eventually they will know you have food and approach you to get it quicker...

Well, they are probably scared because they never see you! You need to bring them in to the house if possible and spend time with them. You have to build a bond with them so that they want to come back to you when they go outside.

As it is, they have nothing to come back for so you will probably lose them. Give them some love and attention as well as food and I'm sure they will come around.

i'm somewhat wondered about what your question is. i'm assuming you try to say you've 3 feral cats that you're holding on your basement, and they are not good with human beings or with one yet another? or you've had those cats and they are not good with one yet another? Why are they kept interior the basement? holding them cooped up like that ought to reason psychological complications. perchance you may save one cat in a unmarried room, one in the different and yet another in yet another. Or, you may save one, and launch the different 2, putting out nutrition and water for them and cat shelters. Or take care of them being blended and desire there is not any important injuries led to. Are all of them mounted? that ought to reason aggression in the experience that they are not.

Cats are social animals. If they are left with only each other and lack human contact for more than 2 hours a day, they will not know what a human being is and thus become independent animals. If you can't keep your cats in your house and give them plenty of attention, please give them to someone who can.
