Start at the bottom (ends) of your hair. Untangle botom 2 inches, move up 2 inches, untangle, move up. Saves splitting, breaking and pulling hair. This works for dry or wet hair.

Strawberryblond is correct. When I had my Harley I would ride without a Helmet. I had long hair at the time and it get snarled and knotted. I would take a hair brush and start at the very ends and slowly work up and look handsome and debonair again. LOL! :-D
I assume the wet approach may work best.

on wet hair, use a very wide tooth comb (never use a brush on wet hair!) and some light spray on conditioner. I use Paul Mitchell Awapuhi Moisture Mist... its amazing!!! you can use it on hair or skin and its not heavy at all!

on dry hair, start from the bottom and do light brush strokes, then move up. it should come out like that. if not, and if its really bad, just cut it out. :(

I use Johnson's No More Tangles (in an orange bottle). I also use a pick instead of a comb.
