She isn't sick and she'll nibble a little bit but the only way to get her to really eat is to sit there with her and pet her. Any suggestions?

different animals have different prefrences. Some pets you have to hand feed or they wont eat, others have to eat privately with no one around. Its just your cats personality.

I babysit for a neighbor's cats and one of them will only eat if I put his food out in the living room and sit with him while he eats. It's a real pain! Especially when I'm in a hurry in the morning. And I can't just leave the food because there is another cat who has health problems and can only eat a certain food.

I think you just have to sit there.

Or if there is no other cat, then you could just leave it there and maybe your cat will eventually get hungry enough. She might not eat for a meal or two, but maybe she'll get hungry enough to eat on her own.

Maybe you could give her some really irresistible food for a while (like meat that people eat, or whatever she really likes) and leave her with it. If she gets used to eating on her own, maybe you can slowly replace her regular food.

Good luck.

You have your kitty spoiled!haha my cat was like that too when I first got her. Just leave the food out and she will eat it as she gets really hungry. Don't worry, it won't hurt her.
