that is a good question.. I'm not really sure of the answer. In a way, I can kind of see your profs way of thinking because if you think about it... like women in the other country might suffer through rape, they may bear children that these soldier men are not going to take care of, they may face degradation, but also on the flip side, the women in the states that are married or dating these male soldiers are here taking care of the children by themselves, suffering loneliness without their mate here, then there are a bunch of single child bearing aged women without mates because so many single child bearing age men are in the war or have already been killed as a result of the war. Then when the soldiers come back a lot of them are injured, have post traumatic syndrome and other issues and the females usually end up taking care of them weither it is the mother, sister, wife or girl friend which is a form of suffering and a burden for some. But, the soldiers them selves are the ones who are putting their lives on the line, they are facing the risk, they are dealing with the bombs, the guns, noxious gases, the heat they have the most stress so they are suffering as well. They are the ones who suffer with an amputated limb, coming back to the states not being able to do the things they used to, or even coming back home to things that are much different than when they left. Some might comeback and not be able to do the same work they used to, which is stressful. I think all involved suffer, in different ways, but to say women suffer more than men.. I really can't agree with that.

Men have this problem as well, which is why the wear under shirts. But women have the advantage, because we can wear paddedor lined bras to protect the nipples.
What happens is your nipple essentially maintains a contracted or wrinkled state for far too long. And it doesn't help if you have a rough material such as polyester or wool that is rubbing your nibble and creating a friction that is irritating.
My suggestion to you, is to purchase and wear a bra that is at least lightly padded, soft, and snug around that areola area so that there isn't any gap between your nipple and the bra when moving, thus creating the material to rub. Also, during the winter months, be sure to moisturize after a hot shower. Skin becomes dry and flaky in the winter time which can be itchy.
I hope you feel better!

I'm not a woman, but I suffer with painful nipples at this time of year when I jog. I tend to jog about 12 miles at a time, and through out the year will always put some vaseline on the nipples to stop them from rubbing and bleeding.
I did the same last weekend, but this time they really hurt. I put it down to the cold and wet, thus making my nipples a little more erect.

Yip - its too cold and they are hard too much - and not cause we're turned on!!! (if only) - its not a good look either through your top!! Its worse if you wear a lacy type bra cos the fabric rubs against your skin causing it to chap almost like your lips do - as also can warming up with the heater!! My advice is to wear a cotton bra - personnally I can't stand padded bras they look crap on me!! wear extra layers - a vest under thinner tops and to use a good moisturiser such as E45 or something with Evening Primrose to sooth and help prevent dryness and chapping. :-)

i've noticed that i get that sometimes in the winter also, but not as seriously as you're describing. usually folding my arms over my chest for a few minutes does the trick for me, but yes it happens due to the cold and it's very annoying!
