I'm a christian. Here's a question.

Is it rude to badmouth muslims at church? Like if the pastor said, "Next week we MAY have a muslim coming in to the church, just so you all are aware".

Is it rude to badmouth and mock Islam in the church service the next Sunday, even if I don't see a muslim there?

Interesting thought ran across my mind.

For those who answered that this is not something we should do...that we should be more careful, even IF we don't see a muslim in church the next Sunday....

Would some of you mock God even if you can't see Him? I'm not talking to the atheists who have been very kind and understanding of me in here, but the rude ones that don't just mock christians, but mock God directly. Is it any better for you to mock God even though your not sure He's there?

Just a thought that I hope softens the hearts of atheists, not to me, but to God.

I'm an agnostic. I don't mock God, but sometimes I do mock his/her followers. It may not be the nicest thing in the world to do, but sometimes I just can't help myself.

When an atheist mocks "god" they are mocking the idea of "god". Many atheists see the idea of "god" as a joke. I mean, lets pretend that there really is no god at all. It would kind of silly for people to create a false creator and follow this creators rules. And that is exactly what Atheists see. They see blind people leading blind people in the pursuit of a false god that they themselves have created.

So, to some up my answer: Atheists are "certain" that there is no god, so some of them choose to mock the idea of god. They don't mock god because in their eyes he doesn't exist.

Some Agnostics sometimes mock god because they "believe" in some sort of higher power. And they think that he/she should lend us a hand down here.

Atheists don't believe there is a God to mock. It is as if we were mocking Mother Goose, Harry Potter, Frankenstein's Monster, Luke Skywalker, or Santa Claus.

If you believe in any of those, such mockery would hurt. If you don't, it's kind of funny. However, if you ran across a 30-year-old who believed that a Goose wearing an apron and snood sat around telling children stories, you would find it kind of comical. That's the way atheists may feel about Christians (or Muslims) who take their faith so seriously without ever questioning its basic assumptions.

It's not a matter of mocking god. Atheists don't believe in your god, so how in the world could we mock something imaginary. Some Atheists may mock you Xians for believing in a fairy tale, but mocking the fairy tale in itself? That's just silly.

And no, you shouldn't be mocking someone of another religion in your church. Whether they are present or not. That's just rude and intolerant. The difference is, the person in your church is real. The Fairy Tale is not.

They were probably mocking you, or one of your fellow christians.
For an atheist, mocking god would be like mocking Rocky Balboa.
You can't really mock a fictional character, so you are really directing at the person who holds that belief.
That being said, nobody should mock anyone. We do it, but there's no reason to hurt anyone's feelings. It's thoughtless.

OK there is something that you aren't understanding. We don't believe there is a God so your analogy doesn't make sense.
There really are Muslims. They are real beings. If an atheist doesn't believe in God to him it's like mocking the Easter Bunny.
And atheists "aren't sure" if there's a God. We believe there is no God as much as you believe there is one.

Firstly, no you shouldn't mock Muslims. Especially if they're not there.
Secondly, if your god does exist then he's omnipresent and it's impossible to insult him behind his back. If he doesn't exist then he doesn't have a back to insult him behind so it doesn't matter. So everything I'm saying about God is either being said to him, or being said about someone who doesn't exist.
In any case the only opinion I have of any god is that it doesn't exist. You can't really insult something if you don't believe in it.

It's different to mock a living human being and to mock a mythical being. Would you mind if I mocked dionysus? Apollo? Thor? Why not god?
