I've been wanting to write a personal history of myself. I'm thinking of just starting from birth and working my way up to present day. Here's my problem though, I have a terrible memory. When I was a kid I'd forget school friend's names over summer break. Back in High School a teacher of mine mentioned a book that helped him remember childhood events and things earlier than he thought possible. This is what I'm really looking for.

Do any of you know of books that can help me to do this? Any special techniques, websites, or other resources that you might suggest? Keep in mind that I'm not really looking for remembering current things like names. Nor am I looking for stuff about remembering past lives (been getting that alot on searches). Any help that can be provided would be appreciated.

I have a suggestion for you.

Continue doing your research on the net, If that activity is helping you.

My suggestion: Contact all of your family members for Photos of you and your family at child hood. I am sure there are pictures of you from the Hospital on the day your were born. Birthday Parties, Holidays, family vacations and School pictures will help you remember.

The objective here is to do an auto-biography of your self. Take a single picture and write a short paragraph on the event. Try to locate one, two or more pictures for each year of your life. Then ask your self the following questions.... What, When, Where and How. Ask your friends and family members to assist with any details.

Example: What: Family Picnic at the Lake. When: Your age and year. Where: Sebago Lake, Sebago Maine. How: We traveled by automobile, My Dad's Wagon. Mom and Dad shared the driving.
List the peoples names and ages who were in the Picture and those that were not in the picture.

Soon, you will have a visual and written record of your life.

My two daughters did a video with still Pictures and music for our 30th wedding anniversary. It was so great. All of the pictures were in sequence by season and year. Twice a year I view that video. Each time that I view the video, I am thankful for a good life.

If you should decide to take this suggestion, you will have a clearer memory about the events and the people in your Life.
