I am a Christian and believe very strongly so this question is not to persuade me. I was just wondering if you do not believe in God than what do you believe in and what do you live for? Do you believe in good and evil? what do you think happens when you die? It just seems sad to me that some people believe that this is all there is.

LET ME EXPLAIN:

It seems sad to me that some people devote their lives to the lie of Christianity when there is such a big bright beautiful world out there just waiting for you.

I believe in life and the good of humanity. I believe in good and evil, but of course they are points of view. What you may consider good or evil some one else may not. Death is just that and in life you have to accept that some day you will die. There is no reason to dwell on it, but when you die, that will be the end of you. You will stop existing. You’re not sad that people think that, but you are sad that it could be true.

Life is a wonderful thing and we are so lucky to have it. What could possibly be sad about that???

Yes, it's sad. I do believe you're on to something.
I believe that when I die, I will never again perceive anything. My body will decompose, my friends and family will grieve, move on and then die themselves. This is not a comforting belief.
So does not the fact that millions of people believe something so sad tell you something about that belief? If it's so sad, then surely it has something else going for it, or no one would believe it. That something is that it's true.
Your belief in heaven is based on a desire for comfort. You don't want to believe that after seventy or eighty years it's all over, or that you'll never see your dead friends and family members again. It's an understandable desire, but just because you want something to be true doesn't make it so.
When we die, that's it. I don't believe that because it makes me happy, I believe that because it's the truth.

Good and evil, no. Right and wrong, yes. Good and evil are generally described and used in common usage as things that are universally right and universally wrong because a deity said they are. However, right and wrong are principly based on the social contract, that is, we as a group of people agree to live together and we find that we can best live together if we do these things.

You might consider killing another person, even willing, to be 'evil'. So you are asserting it is universally true that to kill another person is morally reprehensible. Would the same hold true if we found an intelligent species for whom in procreating, one of the partners HAD to kill their partner to complete the process or they would not conceive? Would it still be evil? If so, then you believe it is good to allow an intelligent species to go extinct. If not, then there are no universals.

I believe in nothing. Literally. I accept a few things as true because the consequences of not accepting them would be the total denial of all knowledge, but I recognize that even so, they could still be false.

When we die, that's it, that's the end of the story for us. Our atoms and associated carriers of electromagnetic force may disperse and continue, but the entity we are in life is irrecoverably lost.

To be honest, it seems as sad to me that you believe as it seems to you that I do not. But hey, isn't being human grand that we have all these different ideas?

Living a long and prosperous life, enjoying the wonders of the world, fame, enlightenment, procreation (very important), love of my family and friends.

And that's from a plain old nonbeliever. Buddhists who also don't believe in God have a more formal way of expressing the aspirations of life.

So don't be sad, we'll be just fine!

I live for the moment. I believe that I exist and that everything I do should be to follow my bliss, whatever that may be. I believe that when I die I will just die. I believe that the "soul" is really just our consciousness which is us recognizing ourselves. I believe that religion is detrimental to society and holds back progress while oppressing groups of people. I believe in a morality that is not universal in nature, but generally worldwide in practice. I share my beliefs with people who believe differently because I enjoy the discussion and it is sad to me to think that people would waste their lives expecting something greater after they die. Case in point: the catholic priest who has never had a wife and enjoyed sex with her as every man should be allowed to do. If God is fake then he wasted his life in misery. It saddens me to think that someone would blow themselves up in a car because of their God, killing others. It saddens me that people would follow a charismatic leader who claims to know the way of God only to find themselves poisoning their children and themselves with koolaid.

I think that believing that this temporal earth is all we get is a much safer way to live for all of us.

I believe in God my Father in heaven and I believe in Satan the father of lies because i believe Satan is real and I know him does not mean I worship him he will come into your life and you will not even know he is there he can appear as a angel of light he will try and steal your children away from you his agenda is to destroy the children of God in any means he can he comes in false religions he comes through music he comes through your television set and the only protection you have from him is the full armor of God and your spiritual weapons, the sword of the spirit is the Word of God your helmet of Salvation and Your shield of faith these are your weapons , your armor breastplate of righteousness belt of truth and your shod your feet with the gospel of peace

If God were not necessary Being of Himself, He might almost seem to be made for the use and benefit of men.
