Ridiculous. The Book of Jonah the Prophet was written and widespread for centuries before the birth of Christ and the Catholic Church. In Hebrew, and in the Greek Septuagint. We have manuscript evidence. Nothing has been "altered".

The only difference between the Catholic Bible and the Protestant Bible is that the Protestant Bible is missing seven books that were included early in the writing of the Bible because Martin Luther used a different source for his version of the Old Testament than di the Catholic Church.

The Catholic Church itself doesn't have a theory on how the book of Jonah got into its final editorial form.

However, Catholic theologians and scholars are given widespread latitude to investigate the history of sacred scripture, and there are lots of professors who've performed textcritical analysis on biblical writings in order to discern their history. I haven't heard this particular theory, but that doesn't mean someone hasn't suggested it.

I do know that in Catholic theology, we take Jesus' words "this is a wicked generation, and only the sign of Jonah will be given to it" to mean that Jonah is in this aspect a prophetic text. Jonah's time in the fish is meant to symbolize Jesus' time in the grave, and Jonah's re-emegence prefigures the resurrection.

The Catholics don't need to read the OT literally, so I don't think this is a Catholic version.

I see no reason to call this Catholic. It is a Biblical story, narrow
minded people who do not know how to read do not understand, clearly Jonah was in a submarine.
