Hi,
Having just returned from my local Co-Op supermarket, I notice that such items as clingfilm & oven foil are in the baby food and nappies isle.
Marmite is not with sauces & pickles, oh no, it is the jam department.
Batteries, if you are looking for a pack, are next to the sandwiches.
Highly relevant !
I am confused.
Please help & comment on this issue.
"Why are the gravy granules no-where ner the "cooking aids" section. I find them on the end of an isle offering Christmas wrapping paper.
No, I found it all eventually, but.
Weird & silly set-ups.
Do you have a place like that ?
Bob

my local isn't that bad but e.g. they've got the gardening stuff at the front with the clothes and the stuff you need everyday like milk, bread etcetera at the back.

if many of us see something that wasn't on the shopping list but we wanted it once we saw it, generally we buy. I never go out to buy milk & bread and come back with just milk & bread, there's always something else and i think the supermarkets want to maximise on that.

your shop though, just sounds like it's got a couple of insane floor managers!

you have a right to be seriously irked by that. what if you've got no time? isn't it supposed to be a convenience store, what's convenient about that? it's just manipulative and time wasting and I bet once you've memorised this new order they're going to change it around to something equally inane and equally frustrating.

This all has to do with marketing. They try to place items based upon who needs the main-focus item. In other words, when there are big sports events...the soda and beer are placed next to the chips and dip.

For instance, more people barbecue on memorial day and labor day, so next to the meat market area, you will start to see hot dog buns and mustard.

On Super Bowl Sunday, you're going to see alot of displays that include beer and stuff to make guacamole (avocados, onions, tomatoes). More people eat guacamole on Super Bowl Sunday than any other day of the year.

Baby food is located with napkins, because parents use them both for their kids, and foil in the same aisle too because they find that the homebound mother will cook frequently for her family.

The gravy was by the Xmas wrapping paper because people will use the gravy for their Xmas dinner. It triggers reminders in people who say, "Oh, I forgot to add XXX to my shopping list.". By the way, I bet you also saw large foil pans next to the wrapping paper as well! d:)

...and sometimes they mix items, just to catch last-minute shoppers who say, "Oh, I need that!", and they snag it from the shelf.

Yeah they move the layouts round in stupid ways.
So the customers (us) have to walk round and round looking for things.
The idea is that you might see something you hadnt realised you needed and buy it!

I think they do it so you have to go all over the shop to fill your shopping list.........putting loads of other non-list stuff in your trolley while you're at it. Merry Christmas.
