the love of what? so if money didn't exist the love of it would not either therefore the love of money is contingent on the existence of money... therefore... money is closer to the root of all evil than the love of it is. hm. also, if this were true, wouldn't all our politicians be much more evil than those who grow up in the projects or backwood country farms? wouldn't everyone who tries to make extra money be guilty of all of this. would't multimillionaire pastors of megachurches be some of the most evil people in the world? well... a lot of that is true.

No. The Scripture says, 'The LOVE OF money is the root of all evil." The way you quoted it is a common misnomer of interpretation that has been taken to mean that Christians should be lowly and of mean estate, but that's far from the truth! The Scriptures teach us that God wants us to be successful and as well off as possible, but not at the expense of growing lazy or taking away from God's service.

You got that scripture quote all wrong. Look it up in the Bible, The Bible says, the love of money is the root of all evils. Big difference. It's not evil to have money, just to love accumulating it above everything else.

I believe the bible to be 100% true and without error. So naturally I believe the statement "The love of money is the root of all evil." I know many people as you addressed, that actually think money can get them anything they want. But in reality, it can get them nothing they truly want. Many of my friends have gone through the point of working themselves to the point of throwing up almost constantly, all for the sake of a bigger paycheck...pretty stupid huh? I had one friend who just about killed himself for the sake of earning money, he went back to work when he still had a Major flu, and he got so sick he almost died...all for the sake of money. So I can easily see why it says the love of money is the root of all evil. The obsession that comes from wanting money can get you killed, and can ruin your friendship with EVERYONE around you. It can even get you to stop loving God. So I do believe money can be evil. Excepcailly in our world where money is what EVERYONE wants. Our world revolves around money, and that's why it is the obsession that can kill people. I don't think God meant you were never supposed to have money, I just don't think you have to want it like most people do. We are supposed to be obsessed over God, not money. If we are focused on money, we aren't focussing in on God, which is a sin. So I guess money is evil....but hey, that's just what I say...

God bless you, and merry Christmas

Well, that's not what the verse says, as you will probably be told endlessly. It's "the LOVE of money is the root of all evil". It's a slightly different point. To that extent, I'd say it is probably right.

While I agree that money is a motivator for some folks with evil intentions, I do not think it is the root of all evil.

And now that we have the correct quote -- I still don't believe it is the root of all evil.

Some with money become a servant to money and some can serve
God with their money.

The love of money is the root of all evil and can not create true happiness. (This I take by faith not experientually).

When I buy myself food, I make myself happy. When I pay my rent, I make myself happy. When I clean my clothes, and put them on later, I make myself happy.

On the other hand, when i am sitting in my room in the morning, and the sun first comes out, and everything is yellow and warm, I am happy. When I am walking down the street, and some open window is playing music I like, I am also happy.

Jesus said man does not live on bread alone; he didn't say never eat bread again.

Stop misquoting Scripture...

"the Love of money is the Root of all Evil"

it's not the money it's the greed for it that causes evil

"All evil?" No, not all. Pride and narcissism are possibly just as bad if not worse; a lust for power and the delusion that some higher power is giving you the answers to make your political moves. That's just plain scary. Do I need to give examples?
