Grand Marnier and Cointreau are quite different.

Ordinary Triple Sec is usually less alcohol and often gummy sweet.

We have come across only one product that practically equals Cointreau in flavor and texture and delicacy and alcohol, at a much lower price. It is a Triple Sec sold in Canada: Meagher's brand. It's bottle is exactly the same as Cointreau's (how did the Meagher company evaded a trademark infringement suit, I wonder). We always get a couple of bottles at the duty free when we leave Canada.

Grand Marnier, Citrone, any citrus liqueur.
Triple Sec, only if you're DESPERATE.

If you plan on making martinis or higher end drinks, especially to impress over the holidays, bite the bullet...buy the good stuff.
Cheap *** triple sec will wreck any decent drink...that's why it's always mixed with 3 or more other components.
