When I was a child I used to like Hark, the herald angels sing. I don't know why but in a big church the songs always sound good. I guess they are designed that way.

Go to a library and read some history books. Jesus was no mythical figure. You can dispute that he was God's Son, but don't insult people's intelligence by denying he existed.
Carol writers wouldn't waste time on mythical figures. Hear any good songs about Zeus lately?
My favourite hymn is O Holy Night. Merry Christmas.

Silent Night, primarily because I know the historic context of its composition -- it was written because the composer's church's organ had been severely damaged by mice and he had to write a song QUICKLY that could be sung beautifully without musical accompaniment. When well sung, it can be quite beautiful.
Unfortunately, when poorly sung, it can sound as bad as your tone-deaf family chiming in, off key and off tempo, on 'Happy Birthday'.

I like "Go tell it on the Mountain". When I was a child we used to have Christmas programs and were allowed to sing songs of the Savior. My second best would be "Drummer Boy". Peace out.

Angels We Have Heard on High -- love singing harmony to that one
I also like Joy to the World - another one with an interesting melody and great opportunity for interesting harmony

I love Hark the Herald - the words are brilliant. I have written three new carols and am singing them in church over Christmas.

I am a Christian and a realist,
But I LOVE Rock and Roll, even some Heavy Metal music from the un-informed and ignorant, drug induced "Artists"
My favorite is AC/DC, they just rock. What is yours?
Peace!
