A lady wrote the best letter in the Editorials in ages!! It explains
things better than all the baloney you hear on TV.
Recently large demonstrations have taken place across the country protesting the fact that Congress is finally addressing the issue of illegal immigration. Certain people are angry that the US might protect its own borders, might make it harder to sneak into this country and, once here, to stay indefinitely.
Let me see if I correctly understand the thinking behind these
protests. Let's say I break into your house. Let's say that when you discover me in your house, you insist that I leave. But I say, "I've made all the beds and washed the dishes and did the laundry and swept the floors; I've done all the things you don't like to do. I'm hard-working and honest (except for when I broke into your house). According to the protesters, not only must you let me stay, you must add me to your family's insurance plan, educate my kids, and provide other benefits to me

and to my family (my husband will do your yard work because he too is hard-working and honest, except for that breaking in part).
If you try to call the police or force me out, I will call my friends who will picket your house carrying signs that proclaim my right to be there. It's only fair, after all, because you have a nicer house than I do,and I'm just trying to better myself. I'm hard-working and honest, um, except for well, you know.
And what a deal it is for me!! I live in your house, contributing only a fraction of the cost of my keep, and there is nothing you can do about it without being accused of selfishness, prejudice and being an
anti-housebreaker. Oh yeah, and I want you to learn MY language so you can communicate
With me.
Why can't people see how ridiculous this is?! Only in America.
If you agree, pass it on (in English). Share it if you see the value of it as a good simile. If not blow it off, along with your future Social Security funds.

Mizhani -
You're comparing apples to oranges. Your reference to the "stealing" of this land happened when there were no laws against it. There was nothing saying you couldn't conquer another land. We're talking about breaking the LAW. Okay let's say a black person broke into your house. Would you call the police or say, "Well, it's the same thing Christopher Columbus did." and turn your head the other way? It's a whole different picture now, isn't it?

I completely agree, but....
I do have some sympathy for many of the illegal immigrants. Don't get me wrong, I don't think we should allow it. But if I was in there shoes, I would probably do the same thing. I would want to come to the greatest country in the world when it is so easy for me to get there, get a job and provide for my family. They have very little hope in their own country. And it's so easy for them to get here and get a job.
Again - Please don't get me wrong, I agree that we should not allow it. I'm just saying that I understand why they do it and I harbor no ill will towards them.

As a side note, I believe it's imperative that we secure our borders, but the most important reason is national security. It's too easy for terrorists to cross our borders.

They are illegal and should be treated as such, too bad our government does not agree. If they would go to California or Nevada around the first of the month, and visit any walmart, they would see American tax payers money at work. It is sickening to see where our country is going. These people are here to take our country away from us and believe it or not, they have the west, it will take the military to get our country back now because of our do nothing congress. Send more troops to the middle east and let our country go in the garbage can!

Mizhani: The part of the country that you say we stole from the mexicans was bought and paid for. Seems like you as most illegals don't understand is that ILLEGAL IS ILLEGAL!!!
People did come here from all over the world, but they did it LEGALLY! If they want a better life then maybe they should protest in their own country and make changes there. 41% of them here are on WELFARE. What makes you or anyone else believe that we should take care of another countries poverty! Simply put, they need to leave, taking their welfare babied with them, the mexican government needs to be sent a bill for the cost of taking care of their poor people! They take more than they contribute many times over!

I disagree. The Army and Air Force who did the vast majority of slicing threw the Iraqis in 2003 was once widely developed below the Reagan and Bush1 presidencies. The apparatus; M1 tanks, M2 Brads, AH-sixty four helicopters; had been fielded below Reagan. IIRC, the USAF has further one fighter airplane and one shipment airplane considering the fact that Bush1. Bush1 truthfully reduce the Army from sixteen to thirteen divisions and Clinton additional reduce it from thirteen to ten divisions. And that is wherein we're at present, 10 divisions. The Army being overstretched is a outcomes of slicing the troop force to 540, 000 throughout the Clinton presidency. It has truthfully extended reasonably, lower than 10 percentage, below Bush2. So I'd say that poster is not watching on the whole snapshot.

TERRIFIC!! THANK YOU!!
And for you who "hate all illegal immigrants" - you are a bozo.
I just hate the fact that I can't afford to send my son to college and there will be no Social Security for me much less my son because Mexico encourages their folks to break the law and steal MY MONEY!!

Wow! Here is my take of what you are saying..

In your analogy, you stated that it was our “house” people breaking in should not be allowed to stay... but lets say that it wasn't OUR house.. or actually .. well not exactly all of us... but most AMERICANS did the same thing the Mexicans did only a couple of hundred years before them.... Americans claimed this land as their own.. and though people already lived here... we were in search for a better life for ourselves and saw this new location as prime real estate. Who cares that someone already lived here!!

Lets say.. that the founding principles.. (after you stole this land) would be that there would be a melting pot of all nationalities... all people in search for a better lifestyle could come here… to work their way up into society and be created equal.

what since .. has changed?? Oh they don't speak English... which causes issues for concern...

Never mind the fact that America is the only country that speaks one language.. never mind the fact that English was not the native language of the original "Americans"..

Oh I get it…lets just be hypocrites.. that's what we do best.

I see your point as this is a wonderful analogy. However, there are a lot of "lazy" Americans. US citizens willing to put up with the"illegals" demands/needs in order to have cheap labor, and let someone else take care of life's little unpleasantries. (ex. cleaning) As long as there are those not filling those positions with only US citizens, this will continue.

You are damn right, good phrasing if only ignorant people would see it that way too.

Sorry those Americans who are pro-illegal immigration, are probably employers of these illegals.
