Probaby b/c alot of your blood is diverted to the Gastrointestinal tract to help supply energy & oxygen to the tissues involved in digestion. This means blood is diverted from your brain & other vital areas as well which may cause drowsiness. Also since the stomach is pumping Hydrogen ions into the lumen, It is absorbing bicarb back into the blood creating an alkalotic state. This is known as the "alkaline tide". This will cause your body to feel "sleepy"
Sometimes, a heavy meal (comprising high protein) may contain a lot of L-trytophan, a type of amino acid. When we eat foods that contain L-trytophan, this amino acid travels from the digestive system to the brain through the circulated blood. Then the brain changes L-trytophan into another chemical called serotonin which calms us down and helps us sleep.

Because all of your blood pumping goes to help your stomach digest, so not enough oxygen goes to your brain and makes you feel sleepy!
