There is something much bigger and more powerful than me, a Divine spirit than runs throughout the Universe and is in all living beings and maybe even in the Earth itself. I am a part of that because this Divinity is in me too. And you. So HI....how are you?

I believe that my Higher Power is the universal creator, and protector of living (and I suppose non-living) things. Bad things happen to good people, of course. It is not because of "fear" that I believe in God, like some believe is the backbone of religion. And I am not a Bible-thumping Christian who shoves his religion down others' throats. Rather, I feel a sense of peace in my belief that there is more to the world than just our own kind. Some may consider this a "childlike" belief, but I suppose they would be correct. I do consider myself a child of my Higher Power. If people choose not to believe in a Higher Power, and instead choose to make fun of, or condescend to those who do, it is not my responsibility. While I hope (and pray) that those people find peace, the best that I can do, as an individual, is live my life in a way with which my Creator would be pleased, and hope that, through my example, others might learn of his love.

My higher power is God. My relationship with him is one of total trust and admiration. He is my rock, my best friend my shrink my mentor my everything. I get from him a great deal of peace, love, direction, discipline, guidance, strength all the things one needs to get through just one day at a time. I haven't always had this relationship with him though, but he never turned his back on me even when I "KNEW" I was doing things "MY" way lol. Little did I know. Good Luck....

There is no higher power. I have an understanding with my own intellect about this, that I don't need an excuse or a crutch to know the universe or my place in it. I don't live in fear.

What higher power? Sure, we've managed to merge electromagnetic, strong nuclear, and weak nuclear, but we're still trying to figure out how to merge gravity with those.
And the Higgs boson/field? Don't even get me started.

He is the Guide, I am the follower.
He is the Light, I am the firefly.
He is the Caretaker, I am the weak.
He is the Door, I am the beggar.
He is Everywhere, I am meek.
He Encompasses me with everything else in the universe, and all I can do is hush in awe, as the days go by and suns set, brings me closer to meeting Him. My eternal destiny.

It seems now it's ok to be an atheist, my wife is more or less an avowed one.
I'm a hindu by birth, but I'm a part of the Unitarian church and have just pulled various items from all these things.
I start off with the conjecture that there is a god. I don't believe any specific religion is right - nor do I believe that any specific text was literal - I treat all religious books as Aesop's Fables - all of which have a methodology to living one's life as a better human. In fact, Sree Narayana Guru, a aesthetic who lived in South India coined this phrase: Oru Jaathi Oru Matham Oru Daivam Manushyanu which translated means one caste, one religion, on god for all of mankind. He went on to say, no matter what the religion, as long as it makes a better human.
With that in mind, I don't think rote recitation of prayers is of any value. Nor do I think that any group of people have particular access to god and others don't. I also think its disingenuous to think that we on this planet are the only ones that can speak to this god.
My relationship with god is synonymous with my relationship with nature and people around me. Live without anger, enjoy every moment of my waking life, and always try to show love and compassion rather than hate and selfishness. The evolution of the flower, for instance, or the evolution of the human body, the ingenuity of man are all symbols of god (to me) and all of these simple things I attribute to a dispassionate but generous entity.
God means a lot of things to a lot of people. I don't and continue not to mind people trying to convert me or trying to convince me that their god is better than my beliefs, because they actively are trying to pursue what they think makes themselves and other people better ('as long as it makes a better human'). I draw the line when religion is used to justify decisions that affect more than several people at a time (for instance, Bush claiming he spoke to god, and god told him to go to war in Iraq).
