The Recipe
1 1/2 cups sugar
2/3 cup shortening or butter*
2 eggs
2 tablespoons milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3 1/4 cups flour
2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt

1 pkg (8oz) cream cheese, softened
1 cup powdered sugar
3/4 cup butter
1/2 tsp.vanilla
2 cups flour
1/2 tsp baking soda

preheat oven to 325. Beat cream cheese, sugar and vanilla on medium speed until well blended. Add flour and baking soda, mix well. Refrigerate 1 hour.

Roll dough to 1/8 inch thickness on lightly floured surface. Cut into cookies, decorate as you choose with colored sugar. Place onto ungreased baking sheet. Check at 10 minutes, you want them to be lightly browned. Cool on baking sheet for 1 minute, then remove to a cooling rack. You can also decorate after baking with royal icing.

Grandma's Christmas Cookies

Combine and set aside:
2 ¾cups sifted all-purpose flour.
1 tsp. Baking powder.
½tsp. Salt.
Put:
¾cup soft (not runny or whipped) butter or margarine in large bowl of electric mixer.
Add:
1cup sugar.
2eggs.
1tsp. Vanilla extract
Beat with mixer or wooden spoon until mixture is light and fluffy.
Beat in flour mixture with mixer or spoon, blending until smooth.
Chill 1 hour, or until firm.
Roll a small amount of dough at a time on floured surface to a 1/8 inch thickness.
Keep remaining dough in frig until ready to use.
Cut in desired shapes with floured cookie cutters.
Put on greased cookie sheets.
Bake in preheated oven of 375* for 8 to 10 minutes, or until brown.

Grandma's Christmas Frosting

Cream ¼ cup soft butter or margarine and ¼ teaspoon salt. Gradually beat in 3 cups sifted confectioners' sugar alternately with 4 to 6 tablespoons scalded light cream. Add 1 teaspoon vanilla extract and beat until creamy and of good spreading consistency. Makes about 1 ¾ cups.

I've been looking that up for a week now, to make cookies for my granddaughter's daycare...the best one I found is on betterhomesandgardens.com, or pillsbury.com, but that one pushes buying the canned refrigerated ones.
