I will tell you exactly how, and you will have the inside scoop:

When a Chasidic man gets out of the shower he takes them, straightens them with his hand, then makes a twist, then straightens the rest, and twists. It takes about 7 or 8 repetitions on each side. Then you put your glasses on with the ear pieces over them, so they don't unwind. When they dry they are super curly with a nice Boing!!! (Most then resituate the glasses so the ear pieces are under the peyos - the name for the curls.)

With this technique It gets a nicer boing curl over time with this technique. The first few times aren't all that great. After a week it looks really proffesional.

Some mothers put their little boys peyos in curlers when they sleep for a few months after they are three. Then it trains the hair to grow like that, and they don't have to worry about it anymore, except with a quick twist after showering.

Just adding... Wikipedia has a good and quite extensive (but not very long) article about the Peyot (or peyos), which is what these curls some hasidic jews wear are called. Actually there are several traditional ways male jews wear their peyot, one of them is the twisted variety, which is referred to in this question (makes it look as if it has been curled with a hot curling iron, even if it has not been). Some tuck it behind their ear, some wear it long and untwisted, some wear it long "winded" around the ear etc. See the article, there you can read which groups have which tradition, what the reasoning is for the tradition etc, just search en.wikipedia.org for "peyot" or "peyos". :)

I imagine some have natural curly hair and for those who don't, they probably pin it up at night or curl it with curling iron so that it doesn't hang down so long. I'm not completely sure because I'm not jewish. Maybe a jewish person can answer that better, but that seems like common sense.

hmm... male or female???

i know my understandings of Jews is really poor, but i read somewhere some of the women wear wigs to cover their hair?? maybe because of the way they tie they hair all the time, that is gets curly??

or maybe its just genetics, jews will usually marry those who are within their community so the gene pool does not get any new straight hair genes from other straight locks people.

just a random thought

I prefer hair that is shoulder length or longer, As well as since that men who like women are more often then not directly, they like long hair because this looks more feminine, as most males have short hair.
