Is there active duty in the National Guard? I'm still trying to decide which I should join. NG, Army, Navy. I'm just not sure yet. Can any of you give your point of views on them all. Why one is better than the other. And so forth. Thanks alot. God Bless.

It all boils down to what you wanna do and what you expect to get out of your time in the military.

First, I think it is commendable that you are interested in joining the military. I spent 22 years in the Navy and must say that I enjoyed most of it. But the military isn't for everyone.

I won't try to discuss the other services, but as for the Navy, I think I can give some insight. First, it is a sea-going service. You will likely end up on a ship and that ship will go to sea. It isn't as bad as some people make it out to be. There are a lot of things to do to keep you busy and help pass the time. Depending on the type of ship, you can get some really great liberty ports too.

There are a wide variety of jobs in the Navy, from cook to electronics to firefighter, weapons workers, and so on. You name it, there is a job in the Navy that does it. Afterall, when the ship is at sea, you can't dial 911 or call the repair shop. A ship is pretty much self sufficient.

There is so much more. I recommend you get over to www.military.com and get on the discussion boards and start asking questions. There are retirees, active duty, reservists, people who got out after their first enlistment, recruiters, career counselors that all frequently check those boards (at least the Navy discussions) who often give sage advice and answer any questions.

Hope this helps.

There is active duty in the National Guard, but what you should be asking is what are you looking for and what are your long term goals? My guess is that you have some sort of obiligation or desire to stay close to home. But there are a lot of things many would be recruits that do not know the benefits to looking into the Army Reserves. Have you contacted a recruiter to even find out if you even met the basic requirements? Just one thing I'll give you to chew on is that you need a release to move to another state if you are with the NG. Why don't you try and give me a call just to talk cause it sounds like you have a lot of concerns and questions?

you can be active gaurd / reserves. What do you want to do? Make sure that whatever you do that you can use the training and skills in the outside world.

There are a couple of differences between branches of services, besides the obvious. For one, Army's food sucks and if you get deployed plan on being gone for at least 18 months, on a few uniforms and they also are pretty tight with their funds. Navy on the other hand has better food, deployments are a year or less, a bunch of uniforms and they tend to be a little more generous with their funds.

You can do ground forces with the Navy, look into the SeaBee's; they are a very unique group of individuals that are considered the "go to, can do" group.

There is active Guard - it's referred to AGR. Typically these spots are filled from the part-time Guard members.
You didn't mention the Air Force which is in my opinion the best way to go. The standard of living is much better and most Air Force members never even come close to seeing combat.
The Navy would rank second, then the Army, then the Marines.
I would suggest joining the Active Air Force. Do the shortest enlistment you can, then decide what is best for you.

Yes, it's called AGR, Active Guard Reserve. It's great because you get the quick promotions and benefits of being in the Naitional Guard Component, but you're on Active Duty making active duty pay. It's kind of hard to get into, but it's the best of both worlds.

Funny no one mentioned the U.S. Coast Guard, or as it is commonly called the Swallow Water Navy. You get the benefits of the Navy and military plus the added benefits on serving in the States. They very seldom have to deploy over seas. Also get good law enforcement training because they do most of the drug interdiction, customs, search and rescue, ice breakers, etc.
Never was in Coast Guard myself was in Marines but family members were in it. A lot better. since it is a small branch of service.

Go active get your schools then go reserve! Make whatever branch you decide on give you written guarantee of school you want. I.e. electronics, computer, mechanic, etc.

DON'T TRUST RECRUITER'S WORD THEY ARE LIKE A BUNCH OF USED CAR SALESMEN ON THE TRUSTWORTHY LEVEL!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is called AGR, active guard and reserve. National Guard falls under the Governor and Reserves falls under the President.

Talk to them then make an informed decision. Just remember, recruiters are used car salesmen.

im in the air force reserve so trust me I know if u dont wanna go to iraq then join this branch. but if you wanna fight then join the army if u like water than join the navy. thats as simple as i can put it. If u join the army national guard you might as well be packed and prepared to go to iraq or somewhere very soon dont let recruiters trick you they lie.
