An orthopedist is someone who specializes in this area. Why waste a co-pay with a doctor who doesn't specialize. If you had surgery, follow up with the doctor who did the surgery or referred you to the surgeon. It could be nothing or it could be scar tissue or a minor tear. If the pain is worse, your body is telling you something isn't right. See the specialist.

Well, I work as a receptionist at my local GP's surgery and I do see a lot of people who don't really need an appointment. However as you have had surgery last year on your knee and it is starting to hurt, I think it would be best to go to your family doctor as it may be something unrelated and if need be they will refer you on. Best of luck

More than likely it WOULD be a wasted trip, your dr will probably refer you to your ortho. I'd go directly there, especially since you've already had surgery.

Yes..........don't go to your family dr., go to your ortho. I just had knee surgery myself and it went well. I only let specialist do surgeries on me..........this knee dr. was a sport dr. for the Houston Texans..................go to your ortho unless you want a 2nd opinion and then i would go to another ortho!!!!!!!! Good luck

Yes, your family doctor may be a waste of your time, unless you want pain meds.

This is still an orthopedic problem.

Contact your surgeon's office and ask for another appointment. If you need to be referred back by your gp, you will be told so. In that case, you must first see your gp for that referral.

If you can make an appoinrtment directly with your orthopedic doctor, then don't waist your time going to your reglar doctror. But many HMO's don't allow you to do that. Good luck and happy holidays.

Go see the ortho doc, which is where your PCP would send you anyway.

Why pay for a useless visit to a general practicioner who cannot help you?
