I understand your problem here. I used to have a roomate in college who had parents who kissed you on the lips when they first see you. I came from a family where a hug was a major greeting. So it was very awkward when her father kissed me the first time I saw him. Since this is normally a greeting thing I would always make sure that I had something in my hand when they arrived at the house, or if I was stuck I would turn my cheek. The cheek is better than the lips (that's really just creepy to me). Also you can try to just extend your arm in a handshake before they get a chance to hug and kiss. If they try to turn the shake into a hug, try to make it one of those guy sholder to sholder hugs. Best of luck to you in this, I know it is weird to be kissed by people you don't really know. Merry Christmas to you!

I feel the same way - it's not my thing either but I don't have any better suggestions for avoiding than those who have already answered you. You could try sticking out your hand for a handshake before they get a chance to grab - sometimes it works; sometimes it doesn't. I usually just grit my teeth, accept the hug, make it short, and turn my face away so they can't kiss me. When leaving, sometimes I can walk around to my side of the car while others are doing their hug goodbye and they forget about me. They probably think that I'm a bit of a cold fish but I don't really care since I don't see them often anyway.

Here's a thought. Be thankful that they like you enough to want to hug you! Be gracious and accept it. It's Christmas for crying out loud. It's the season of love and compassion. Hugs are wonderful but if someone tries to kiss you just turn your face slightly to the side so the kiss lands on your cheek. Then when it's all done, go into the bathroom and wash your face.

It is uncomfortable for people that aren't into the hugging touchy thing. I see it from people when I automatically go to do it myself. I say I'm sorry and learn not to do it. It makes me feel unwelcome but I understand. I go to hug someone or cheek kiss when they make me feel welcome and warm and like family, I don't mean to upset anyone.

Those that I get a funny reaction from - I don't do to again. If you stay a bit aloof, they should pick that up and not do it.

Well, you could give them a touchy feely back. One side of the bum or the other may cure their habit.

Enter the house faking to sneeze in your hand and coughing and sniffling like crazy...that would definitely keep them from hugging and kissing you!

Good Luck

As soon as you arrive at their house say hello and say that you need to use their bathroom, that is one that works. But when you leave I don't know how you will get out of that one.

Actually they are only doing it because they like you, as its Christmas just grin and bear it

as soon as you meet your in-laws put your hand out to shake theirs, keeping your arm quite stiff, so they can't draw you into a big bear hug. Make sure you greet them with a big smile though so they feel you are pleased to see them. (if all else fails grab a huge hankie, hold it to your nose and tell them you are full of cold)

Every time you go say that you've got flu and avoid them

Or just say to them "look, I don't hug, sorry." They may get irritated but meh, so what?
