We are going to my parents for Christmas and are bringing our two cats. My parents have a cat also and just in the last week their cat has become sick. She's lethargic and vomiting. I've asked them to bring her to the vet but they haven't yet. My question is this: Will my cats be ok if their cat is sick? Could it be something that their cat could pass on to mine? Thanks in advance. :)

We could leave one of our cats home but the other one is just a kitten and I don't know if she'd be ok for 4 days alone with our other cat. What if we only brought the kitten but kept her away from my parents cat and locked her in a separate room when we're not there to supervise??

Also, we just moved to a new city and know no one who could come check in on them. :( We've only met one of our neighbors and they're also going to be out of town.

i dont think i would bring my cats, if they havent taken the cat to the vet, the we dont know whats wrong with it, it could have some serious disease that could be passed to your cats, i wouldnt take the chance.

Is your parents cat up to date on the vaccinations? What are the other symptoms if any (sneezing, diarrhea, watery eyes, nasal discharge). An animal that is lethargic can be quite ill. Vomiting on it's own isn't as bad sometimes, all cats vomit for seemingly no reason at one time or another, but with being lethargic, that could be saying something different.
They should really be calling the vet at the very least and talking to them about the symptoms. If it is a UTI, it can definitely be passed from one cat to another.

You don't say how long you will be away. Consider boarding the cats - some vets do this. It's getting late to line up a cat sitter and some people in vet offices do "pet sitting" to pick up extra cash. Vets also frequently have cards in their offices of professional pet sitters.
That would really be the safest. I wouldn't leave the one cat home by itself and think it might be unwise to take the kitten to your parents as it would be the most vulnerable if your parents' cat had something contagious.

You need to be very careful when it comes to cats being sick, cause there is one thing out there that is contagious that can be life threatening and that is feline leukimia, if that cat has it your cats will get it with no doubt, that is the one thing to be deathly afraid of, and that is a reason in itself to get that cat to a vet. I suggest that if they refuse to take that cat to a vet, you will be taking more of a risk taking those cats into that house than you would be leaving them for a small vacation, just leave PLENTY of food and water, cats can eat a lot. It is just for the safety and sake of your cats that you should do this

I wouldn't want to take the chance and have my cats get sick because their cat is sick you don't know if it's congtagious you better leave your cats at home if you are going to be gone for a few days they'll be fine just make sure you leave enough food and water for the duration

i have two cats one (now not a kitten anymore ) at the time i took my summer vacation very much so if you leave plenty of water and food and a clean box they will be just fine i was gone for five days if the other cat is the mother of the kitten she will care for him
i would never chance taking my babies into an unsafe environment
merry Christmas

i wouldn't take the chance, is their a friend or neighbor who could come to your home every day while you are gone and feed your cats so you can leave them at home? it is also tramatic for some cats to change locations, even for a short time.

I wouldn't do it. If you can't find a house-sitter or a friend to come look after your kitties, you might be able to board them at a "cat hotel" for the time you are away. Be sure to go and check it out first, though.
I asked a question about how to check out cat hotels: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AkU91M52VOcYX1o8E.fPTmnsy6IX?qid=20061219064940AAmFOsf

I wouldnt want to chance it until I knew for sure what was wrong with their cat. Can you find someone to leave them with or check on them daily?
