After my last baby my ob put me on the Depo shot. I loved it! No menstrual cycle, no hassle, no missing pills.... However, after about 2 years, my family doctor would not administer the shot to any more of her patients due to the studies on permanent bone loss caused by it. I was disappointed because it was my preferred method of birth control. Has the information changed in regards to the danger of bone loss? If not, what are some alternative methods?

My suggestion is the pill that is out that puts off your menstrual cycle or the patch. Even though it gives you menstrual cycles, you don't have to worry about missing the pill. Honestly, all birth control has negative sides to it. Blood clots being the biggest and heart issues also. But I would say google and find what works best for you.

I dont know much about the Depo Shot, but I do use the IUD. Its an very small umbrella looking thing that is put in the opening of your uterus a few weeks after birth. It can stay in up to 5 years and can be changed out in the same appointment for a new one.

It is recommended for breastfeeding moms. It also does not make you gain any weight. You will never have to remember to take a shot. If you want to try to have another child, you simply make an appointment to have it removed and you will more than likely get pregnant within a month. Usually your menstral cycle will just dissappear (mine did).

I asked my doctor about it and he even gave me some little DVD to watch. Ask your doctor about it, and maybe some other options. Good luck.

You could always get a second opinion when it comes to doctors! However, this dr is looking out for your best interest! They do have a pill out there that allows you to have a period 4 times a year instead of the full 12! I would ask your doctor!

An IUD would be a good thing to look into, but be warned, I tried one and I spotted constantly for months, then all of a sudden lost it. No idea how or what happened, it was just gone. I've been on the patch since then and I like it.

Check with your doctor. They have alot of options for you lifestyle. I've known others that have lost an IUD, implanted itself to the uterus[had to be surgically removed] , and had a baby with the thing grown inside the baby as the baby was developing. The IUD was poking out of the baby's rib cage. Be careful and follow you doctor's suggestions.

look into an IUD.
i am getting one in 2 wks and i can't wait! no pills, no shots, etc...it is inserted into your uterus and protects you up to 5 years. so, i will probably have it for 2 or 3 years and then i will have it taken out to have another baby.
it is called the mirena IUD and my dr recommends them to moms of at least one child (so your uterus is a little bigger to accomodate it), in a monogamous relationship and not ready to have kids for a little while. i'm a first time mom, married and not ready to have another one for a few years, so, i am their target candidate. it's not birth control that's marketed to alot of teens, but i think it sounds like something you should check out!!!

here's the mirena website:
http://www.mirena-us.com/index.html?c=S1&WT.srch=1

oh, plus, it's the most effective birth control out there. even more effective than a tubal ligation!!!
plus, mirena has a site to look at the financial aspect. my insurance covers it, but some don't.

take care and happy holidays!

Make you husband wear protection because the pill is no good for you. There is another way your husband can have that opperation that men have to prevent the fish from swiming.
Most men are sceared to have this done but it really is not that big of deal.
It is as much his responsiblity as it is yours.
I wish I could be of more help.

I really liked the Nuva-Ring U wear it inside (its kind of like the ring of a female condom) you for 3 weeks & take it out for the 4th. That when u do have ur period, but at least its very hard to forget.

If you are plannign on breast-feeding, you can take the mini-pill or use an equivalent patch.

You can also get an IUD.
