This is called post inflammatory hyperpigmentation. When the skin is injured and gets inflammed. Its cells release chemicals such as arachidonic acid to prostaglandins, leukotrienes, and etc. These chemicals stimulate epidermal melanocytes(pigment cells), causing them to increase the synthesis of melanin and subsequently to increase the transfer of pigment to surrounding keratinocytes(skin cells). thus, the skin appear darker than the normal uninjured skin. But this doesnt last long and eventually lightens.

There are special type of cells in skin called melanocytes producing a pigment called melanin which is responsible for normal color of skin. They also proliferate when wound is healing leading to such "blackish" discoloration.
