My aunt passed away on Saturday, she had a little dog and she always said that if she died she wanted the dog to go with her. So her kids had the dog put to sleep and cremated with her. Now both their ashes will be together in an urn. I respect them honouring her wishes, but I just feel bad that a perfectly healthy , relatively healthy little dog was killed.

Lots of people offered to take the dog, but she had always said that no one could love it like her. Even after her death her daughter, my parents, and her nephew all wanted the dog, but her son said No this was mom's wishes. It was a little lhapso aphso sorry for the spelling if it's wrong. Just seems we're mourning her death and the little dog, everyone loved that dog too.

Did your aunt make that decision after serious consideration? Had she asked around and found that nobody she knew (including you) wanted to take over the dog? Was she worried that if she gave up the dog to the Humane society and if nobody adopt the dog over a fixed period of time, it would have to be put to sleep anyway? Could these be the reason?
Lots of time, people make bad decision due to good intention. I just can't think anyone would be so selfish to want someone/some-dog that they love to die with them.

Wow, so someone did offer to take care of the dog. In that case, I really don't understand your aunt's wish and her son's action. This sounds like centuries ago, when Emperors of the east died, their concubines were buried along against their wishes.

I am really sorry for the dog, this shouldn't have happened.

That's wrong. Unless the animal was terminally ill, NOBODY HAS THE RIGHT TO PLAY GOD and decide someones time of death. That is just wrong, as bad as taking a human life.
Poor dog. Sorry about your loss.

This is a tragedy, but what's done is done. The poor little thing could have been cremated when it passed away and added to her ashes. Her children probably feel bad enough that their mother passed away...this should probably be swept under the rug.

That Is wrong. Just because she wanted it with her gives no one the right to kill it. She was being selfish and inhumane. I am sorry for your loss, but I do not agree with what was done to this dog. That's absolutely horrific.

My thoughts, get the Vets name and report him, if he just put a dog to sleep without any rhyme or reason he just commited fraud against the oath he took when he first got his license.

Yeah, that's pretty cruel. They should have let the dog live, and when he died naturally, they could have buried the ashes THEN.

I don't believe in Euthanasia. If the dog had wanted to die it would have mourned to death.

I think it should be illegal. What if the aunt said she wanted her neice to go with her? Technically, I think it is illegal. At least in CA it is.
