I am a fond collector of The Glorious Names in different languages. It is unfortunate that the Christian fraternity,in their zeal of translations, have translated His Names also. The Protestants are content with the Name-word:God. The Catholics have retained 'Yahweh' though it is contested to be 'Jehowah'. From Old Testament we find Elohim(Eloaha in singular),Adonai,El.. Islam has the largest collection of the Names of Allah in original language, though differing in dialect and the complete list is innumerable and known only to Him. Of those it would suffice if 99 are known well.I could get about 1200 so far with the sources recorded.Other religions have Names, such as Nirankar- Wahguru(Sikh), Parmatma- ParmIshwar- Brahman(Hindu), AhuraMazda- Yazdan and 98 others in Parsi. It would take volumes to write all the Names and the meanings in all the religions. Accept that only which is recorded in a Scripture in the original/ ancient language. Speak different Name-words in your heart and you shall know the effect of each.

The name used by Jewish, Christian, Muslim and Baha'i Arabs is Allah which just means "The God". It's a contraction of al-ilah. ilah means "a god".

The Hebrew name for God comes from the same root as Allah. It can be either Eloh, El or the plural form Elohim.

The Greatest Name of God is Baha', which means Glory or Splendour.

Jehovah is a Latinized version of YHWH which means "I am that I am".
