As Jesus answered this question "They will not marry nor be married in heaven" For those of us who die before the rapture/tribulation we won't be married to anyone in heaven. Yes, we will recognize our spouses, but as the marriage vows go "till death do us part"

Jesus condemned the lawyers for asking the same question. yet the question pertained to the brothers of the dead who had not given birth to a child.
the fact is that the children born of a brother in this old law and way of life was for the building up of Israel. In ONE battle there was number counted that 70 thousand men died. How many men died without having a child born? Well it is written that Solomon had 700 wives and 300 concubines. ( i may have reversed those numbers, i forget the correct number at this time).
with so many wives there had to have been a battle of lost warriour and it was justified in Israel in order to replace the warriour in battle that were lost.
Technically, Jesus said at first that No ONE marries in the ressurection because WE all become like the angels. yet, others have said that if God has joined a man and women, than such a marriage is for eternity. therefore the man is married to the first.
But even these people neglect to know that SUCH a Marriage has to become a SEALED PROMISE of the HOLY Ghost. without the will of God, even the divorce of men and women will find that some men will be given women who are married to others but NOT justified or promised.
therefore Let not any man separate what God has joined together.

I guess how you look at this depends on what you believe...If you believe the Bible is true, check out Mark 12:25. Which gives some insight, but this situation is one of those things that we just don't know exactly how it will play out until we get there. Personally, I believe however relationships play out, heaven will not be an unhappy place, but a place made specifically with the residents in mind (John 14:1-4).

Mat 22:25 Now there were with us seven brethren: and the first, when he had married a wife, deceased, and, having no issue, left his wife unto his brother:
Mat 22:26 Likewise the second also, and the third, unto the seventh.
Mat 22:27 And last of all the woman died also.
Mat 22:28 Therefore in the resurrection whose wife shall she be of the seven? for they all had her.
Mat 22:29 Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.
Mat 22:30 For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven.
Mat 22:31 But as touching the resurrection of the dead, have ye not read that which was spoken unto you by God, saying,
Mat 22:32 I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living.
Mat 22:33 And when the multitude heard [this], they were astonished at his doctrine.

Stop applying human qualities to Heaven. Your spirit will be free and you will be reunited with all of your loved ones, who have been healed and made whole again. But you're not "with" anyone in Heaven. You won't be going to live in a house with your 1st spouse or your 2nd spouse (or your 8th spouse) and sitting down to supper or anything like that.

Hello... =)
The Judeo-Christian concept of "heaven" is to spend eternity staring at the face of God, which is supposed to be rather pleasant.
There are no promises of anything like being united with loved ones, etc.... Who knows, maybe they get to stand next to you while you stare??
I always thought of "this" concept of heaven rather like watching a really bad theatrical production, that never changes or never ends.
Read your Bible, though, and you'll find this as the truth of heaven, and no promises of happy reunions of any sort. The Reunion Concept is merely a persevering urban legend.
So, to answer your question, I suppose one stands on each side of you, as you gaze, unendingly, at the face of God.
My Great Grandmother was widowed 5 times.....I wonder how they manage that?? Perhaps they all stick out their arms, and she lays across??
Namaste,
--Tom

The Sadducee's tried to trick Jesus with the same question. Similarly. You can read the account starting in Matthew 22:23
Anyway, death ends the marriage ties.
Mat 22:30 For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven.

You will be alone. Sorry to break the news to you, but both your spouses actually loved someone else & in Heaven prefer to be with them. Enough time wasted with you on earth.

I think we all assume we will meet up with our loved ones, I'd like to think so also. But I believe that we will all be so filled with God's love that we will likewise have nothing but love to pour out to others and to such an extent that we will be incapable of showing any special love for any special people. This is God's kind of love and I believe this is why Jesus said .....
Mat 22:30
For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven. (KJV)
Also, it is written ......
Rev 21:4
And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. (KJV)
