Art, be it movies, literature or paintings, are the artist's take on life and the world we live in. I think the Matrix has a lot of philosophical thought & concepts. A little too much towards the end, though.

I think the biggest issue that the Matrix trilogy touched on is how people are ignorant of anything beyond their own lives. Our thoughts & opinions are shaped only by what we observe around us. Looking in from outside the Matrix, we say that the Matrix is fake, but how can we tell? We experience the world through our senses. If our senses all tell us that the world is real, we believe it's real. But what if our "reality" is fake? That's the core question of the Matrix.

How do we experience our world? Again, our senses. We get information from the media - TV, radio, newspapers, books - and the people around us. But how will we know if the information that the media gives us is fake? How will we know if the people around us are telling the truth? So you see, even in this world, truth is relative. The truth to one person is fake to another person. The Matrix takes this concept to an extreme, but it makes one think about the nature of truth.

I need to go rent them. So many of my fellow Freemasons have brought this up as well. Also another forum I frequent has talked about this extensively.

I know I watched the firm the other day and based on all my studies, watching this movie in an allegorical sense speaks volumes.

As far as Matrix, without seeing them again and thinking on topics my brothers were speaking of. Yes the ideas in the movie are very related to gnostic or ancient esoteric texts. The parables and the allegory can be applied to truths. If you have high interest in these email me or study the following;

Yes. Lets take all take the red pill and wake up, people.

Reality is worth perusing.

To add:
I saw the people in the matrix as being like christians and the poeple out side of the matrix as having woken up and seen the real world.

Interesting Idea. In the movie the pseudo world created for everyone was done by means of tubes and wires hooked up directly to their bodies. A more real scenario is one in which everyone has his own view of reality supplied by his own media input. Examples of how this is already starting to happen are Fox News and the way you can chose what content you want to see on your 'Yahoo' opening page etc. Eventually everyone will have thier own virtual environment from which they can pick and chose how much and what type of reality they want to experience. Read Kurzweil.

What a bunch of crappy movies! Each one crappier than the last.

The first one was okay, the second two focused too much on Christian pseudo-philosophy and not enough on violence and explosions.
