I want to get a last minute passport but I know not the location of my expired one....I have searched and searched. I never lose my passport but since I moved to this house.....well....blimey....it's all been chaos.

Can I go to a passport office and get a shiny new one in one day without my old one? I can't seem to get the answers other than calling a hotline that costs £50 a minute and takes ages to get to the point.

I can't rely on the post coz of the time of year

help me please

thank you

This happened to a friend of mine recently and she was told that without the old passport (as in the case of an expired passport) you can't just go to a passport office to get a new one. She was offered an interview in London within 4 or 5 days. She had to leave the UK to return to France in order to work, and eventually managed to get the appointment brought forward to 48 hours, as this was considered an 'urgent' case. (I think she may have had to get a faxed letter from her employer in order to prove this.)

Sorry if this is bad news - good luck hunting, I think it's your only fast option. Why not have a 'find it party'. Get some snacks and drinks in and invite one friend for each room of the house (plus car, garage etc) and get them to literally go through everything you own. Often people who aren't used to your stuff find things quicker!

I cannot speak for the UK but it is my understanding that the replacment rules are similar in most western nations. If the passport is expired, you can get a new one usually by producing an original or certified copy of your birth certificate. Nations that have national ID cards can use that to get a passport. In many countries you can get expedited passport in 2 weeks or less for an additional fee.

In the U.S. you can get a passport the same day at any U.S. Passport Office. If your passport is valid and is lost or stolen you need to notify the State Department or appropiate Ministry in your country immeidately. If you are abroad, notify your Embassy ASAP. If you are scheduled to return to your home country, an emergency passport can be obtained in one day. It is also and expensive replacement too...about $100USD. It will be valid for a limited period, usually not longer than one year and must be renewed if you intend to travel abroad again. I hope this helps.

If you are not a UK resident but are currently visiting the UK you may apply in person for a passport. In order to do this, you need to make an appointment at a passport office and you must provide an address in the UK to which the passport may be posted. You should call our Adviceline on 0870 521 0410 to make an appointment at one of our offices. We can offer a Fast Track one week service.
If you need to travel in less than two weeks you should make an urgent application for a new passport. Your first step should be to call our Adviceline on 0870 521 0410 and make an appointment at one of our offices.

Lost or stolen passport
You must report a lost or stolen passport to us as soon as you can so that it can be cancelled. If this is not done, someone else may try to travel on your passport or use your identity illegally in some other way.

What forms do I need?
Form LS01 and
a standard application form to request a replacement passport.

Oh well it's happened now - the best way of finding something is to start at the beginning. Sounds obvious but most people when looking for something go over the same places over and over again.

It costs a fortune to get a passport in 1 day (I think at least £98) and you have to book an appointment over the telephone with the passport office in Victoria in London and be prepared to be there all day. I know because my husband is also "organisationally challenged" and although I reminded him months in advance still left it to the last week to get it renewed.

You do need your old passport. You also need a fully completed Passport application form (available from the post office) and 4 identical passport sized photos on a white background . If you have changed a lot since your last passport you also need to have it signed by someone official who has known you for 3 years like a teacher / judge / police officer etc. They also have to fill in their passport number on your form. It doesn't hurt to bring your birth certificate too.

Now to finding the passport. Get all your friends round, pretend you are looking for a secret spy device to make it more fun. This means looking behind bookcases, taking drawers out and looking in the gap underneath them (you'll find all sorts of stuff there), going through every piece of paperwork in the house. Take all books and DVD's off the shelves, empty all drawers out. Look down side of sofas and move all furniture. Make a big prize (like bottle of Champagne) for the winner who finds it. Do it room by room and remember to look high and low as well as waist level.

Good luck!!!

The post office have a reliable returns passport service, it all depends on how soon you need the passport.
If going to the passport office make sure you have all the documents you will need, its not like you could pop home for something, whereas the Post Office will check the documentation before being sent, they charge a small fee for this but it is worth it.

yes it`s 100% fine i did this so long as you are coming back before midnight on the day it runs out but be careful of delayed flights if your only a few hours away from midnight. OK - BEVERLY - i just checked with passport office and this is the answer they gave - You can always return to a country of which you are a full citizen on an expired passport. so your ok if you go over midnight due to delayed flights or no delayed flights. ( top question ).

i don`t know about last minute passports, but i have a similar experience (well, kind of) i renewed my passport which was
* lost
* linked to a different address
* in my maiden name (i`d since got married)
* i had no idea of the expiry date or of my passport number
i did get the replacement, and within the normal time frame - but like i say i don`t know whether this would be as straight forward for last minute ones!
good luck - surely it`s worth a try isn`t it?

Depending on your location. Here in Ontario they will do a rush passport but only if timing is good. They like 2 weeks. You also don't need your old one because they do it from scratch again anyway and they can type in your info and retreive the important info off their computer if you had one previously.

if your ones expired you don,t need to take it, they can check your details at passport office but you do need to book your appointment to get new one this is expensive.
