Why do people believe in a book, the bible, that has been edited, manipulated, and mistranslated so often. It was written centuries after the, so called, events happened. Come on, you all know what happens to a story when it's verbally passed on, which is what happened to the biblical stories long before they were ever written for the first time. What's up with this vengful god (first testiment)? Why does it, God, advocate killing people, sacrificing animals, demanding that one prays to it. The new testiment has some nice guidlines for living in a larger society, but that's about it. I have yet to meet any orginised religion (regardless of faith or denomonation) that doesn't try to brainwash people to believe thier way. Why do various religions believe that thiers is the only "true" way? It's all about power and control of people. Let's face it, most people are sheep and will follow others.

You can choose not to believe it, I can choose to believe it. I respect YOUR choice not to believe why can't you respect my choice to believe? The whole respect issue goes both ways.

What is god decided to craft the bible through years of evolution and changes, just like he decided to craft animals? What if his plan all along was to have "errors" in transmission of the bible texts move the text towards its final form? Your question assumes that god would put everything down in final form from the very beginning, which is a big assumption unless god told you personally that that is the way he operates.

If god dictates animal sacrifices in the old testament, so what? People sacrifce animals every day fulfill their cravings for meat, so why would it be inappropriate to kill an animal to show respect for god?

The old testament has tons of guidelines for living in a larger society, and if you read the bible carefully you will notice that only one or two of Jesus's guidelines were new. Most of rules he mentioned were already established in the old testament.

Whats wrong with religions trying to get people to accept their beliefs?

Of course religions believe that their version of things is the only true version. It wouldn't be much of a religion if it thought the other religions were right and it was wrong.

If religion is all about power and control, how come the pope doesn't run the world?

I think the Bible was the best that people had for many years. At that time, all Holy Books were passed on orally. Now, thankfully, we have the Qur'an (written down in the Prophet's lifetime) and the Baha'i Writings (written down in the handwriting of the Founder) so that we can have clearer guidelines for life.

Religion does not brainwash people. People can choose to accept it as their path and guidline for life. Prophets "show the way", they can't pick us up and carry us there. They give us the Path, not a fix-it-all solution.

The Baha'i Faith does not claim to be the only true way, but that all religions are part of one same path leading to God.

Baha'u'llah wrote:

"There can be no doubt whatever that the peoples of the world, of whatever race or religion, derive their inspiration from one heavenly Source, and are the subjects of one God. The difference between the ordinances under which they abide should be attributed to the varying requirements and exigencies of the age in which they were revealed."

Delusional superstitionism (religion) is a pathetic crutch. The first sign a species is becoming sentient is when they have evolved to the point where they can abstract enough to invent a god. The first time a species achieves sentient maturity is when they get rid of their gods.

Because they fear death, even fear life. Things they don't understand frighten them, so since the beginning of time men have thought up myths to explain how stuff works. Now we have science, but because the practice of fabricating deities is so popular nowadays, most are slow to accept it. The bible is just one example

for one the bible is copied thousands and thousands of time and that acuttually gives credit to it not the other way around because if there is a error in a certain part there are a ton of other copies that you can compare it to and correct so the thousands of copies help not hinder the credibility of the bible and you can email me if you want to talk about this further

as long as their are people who believe in God there will be people who try to disprove it. its ok we know we are on the winning side and nothing you say will keep us from serving God.

That is what they were taught as children, fear is deep rooted and hard to overcome. They are afraid of hell and if they even start to think that maybe, just maybe, what they were taught as little children is wrong, the fear of hell kicks in and they pull back.
