Well, the ancestors of modern Mexicans (and all other native Americans) migrated here from Asia beginning about 10,000 years ago.

They crossed the Baring land bridge during a period of high glaciation and low sea levels. Ten thousand years might seem like a long time, but genetic drift (evolution), especially for those who settled in temperate climes, has not yet had enough time to significantly act upon the general features of the population.

Those Hispanics without significant European heritage will still look largely like the native tribes people (such as the Aztecs) they originally descended from.

My theory is that Asians migrated to North America many moons ago. They came across the land bridge that is now the Bering Strait. Once here, they started to develop their own culture into what we now know as American Indians, and some moved further south to warmer climates. I too have noticed the similarity between Asians and Middle and South Americans. Glad you brought up the question. Of course, we will never really know, but that is my thoery, because I have lived in Asia, and have seen how close a lot of the cultural similarities are. They are deep, and noticible with a little study.

American Indians were Asians in the first place, migrated to America a loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooog time ago. Mexicans have a lot of Indian genes, so do other South Americans.

I am a Mexican from Guadalajara, Jalisco, and I do not look Asian. My noticeable Indigenous features in my case are my somewhat high cheekbones and I am not hairy like full blooded European people are. I have dark brown wavy hair, big, almond shaped eyes, thick dark eyebrows, long nose, full heart shaped lips, olive/light brown skin, angular jaws, and gracile build, features associated with Mediterraneans (Spaniards, Italians, Greeks). In Guadalajara and most of Bajio region (Jalisco, Michoacan, Guanajuato, Queretaro, and Aguascalientes), big, almond shaped eyes are found in most people. We even have a term called Ojos Tapatios to refer to these kind of eyes. Tapatio is a native of Guadalajara. It is a stereotype of Mexicans looking pred. Indigenous in other Latin American countries. Yes, I will not deny many Mexicans have that physical appearance, but not all of them, and it is more common among Southern Mexico and to some degree Mexico City. When I was in the Eastern Coast of the US, often I was mistaken for Chilean or Colombian as most Mexican people in Pennsylvania looked mostly Indigenous like you have seen and the Chileans and Colombians looked more European on average but still can see some indigenous blood. In Texas, I did not faced this as most of the Mexicans in Texas look like mestizos with more Euro blood or even some of them pure caucasian.

Take a physical anthropology course or any course that touches on genes and you'll understand that haplo blocks (if I remember correctly) are more important than the superfical way we determine race.
