I think it can be a problem if you forget real world limitations. For instance do you wake up one morning feeling so optimistic that there is a better job out there for you that you instantly quite the one you have. In other words are you so optimisitic that you become inpulsive?

well yes, cause then when things don't turn out optimistic, like you think they should be, then that is going to start working on your self-esteem. But being optmistic can be good too, cause you are at least seeing that there is a light at the end of that tunnel. And all things have someway to work themselfs out. But when you find that it don't always work that way, well you will start thinking a nother way maybe, if it happens to many times to you. So it can be good, but it can also cause real problems if things do not work out like you think. If that happens too much to you that is when it is going to become an problem. But the good news is that if you seek help right away, you proably will not have to be in treatment very long.

Define "too optimistic"? Optimism in and of itself is a GOOD thing, it's how you react to disappointment that could be the mental problem. If you're optimistic about having a day of nice weather even though the weather calls for a 90% chance of rain and your life falls apart b/c it rains the next day, that's a problem.

Typically something is not considered a problem unless it impacts your ability to function on a day-to-day basis.

It is if you don't face reality or have realistic expectations. If you expect all good things to come to you without much effort, you are bound to be disappointed.
It is possible for people to escape into their own world so yes, it could be a problem, if the real world is too much for someone who wants it to always be sunny, they can escape into their own world and break from reality.
But in general, optimism is usually considered good, given that you are doing your part to have a favorable outcome.
