It depends on what sort of diet you're on. Commonly, oat-based cereals, such as porridge, are thought to be good, as they usually keep you fuller, than items with a higher GI, e.g. sugary, non-wholegrain cereals, and sweet fruits. However, if you have problems with overeating, carbohydrates can spike your blood sugar, and- especially first thing in the morning- set you up to crave bad carbohydrates throughout the day (this is the sort of thinking involved in the Atkins' and South Beach diets). In the latter situation, you should have a breakfast consisting of proteins, e.g. eggs, meat, and/or cheese.

Yes, oatmeal is an excellent suggestion - it contains the type of carbohydrates which are digested slowly, meaning you feel full and full of enery for longer. Bananas are also excellent - again, their energy is released slowly, which is why tennis players always eat them at matches!

The main thing is to eat SOMETHING - if you do, you are less likely to snack later on. It's been proved time and time again that breakfast eaters have a better metabolism than breakfast-skippers!

Muesli (with no added sugar) with fat free milk, a piece of fruit and a cafe or a cup of tea.

That should keep you well until lunch time without feeling hungry or with the need for sugar which may lead you to snack on junk. If you feel like having a snack in the morning, have a banana or any other piece of fruit.

Eggs or other high protein foods. They will take longer to digest and keep you satisfied for a longer period of time. A high protein breakfast will also help to control your blood sugar, which in turn will keep cravings at bay.

Cereal and fruit will most likely burn through your system in an hour or two.

I would say that a ceral or fruit breakfast is best but try one of the following

40g - Branflakes or Museli or weetabix or fruit and fibre or 2 shreddred wheats

4 pieces of any fruit

A yoghurt with a banana

Poached egg on toast with low fat spread

Don't listen to the person who said nothing, nor the person who said high protein.

You're body needs carbs in the morning to fuel you throughout your day, and you are guaranteed to spend them (they will NOT be stored as fat, no way)

As for eating nothing, that's the worst thing you can do. You will spike your insulin levels and then the next time you eat, the calories are going straight to storage.

I like to get my carbs through a whole-wheat bread of some sort, then get my protein with yogurt, sided with a glass of OJ. Quick and easy

A good breakfast mealwould a small portion of oatmeal, skim milk, and 2-3 white egg omelette. You will get a good amount of protein and carbs to fuel your body.
