Pina colada is normally made with white rum, but there are a lot of non alcoholic versions available. Pina Colada is Spanish and simply means "Strained Pineapple"

Making it from scratch is a little tricky, so I'd suggest getting a mix. If you want to make frozen pina coladas at home with a blender, I'd suggest getting the frozen mix in the supermarket. Just add rum to the mix, about 1.5 ounces per drink.

PINA COLADA

2 ounces golden rum
2 ounces coconut cream
4 ounces pineapple juice
2 or 3 ice cubes
Pineapple stick
Maraschino cherry
Combine the rum, coconut cream and pineapple juice in a cocktail shaker and shake vigorously, or whirl briefly in an electric blender. Put the ice cubes in a highball glass, add the liquid and garnish with the pineapple and cherry.

Pineaple juice, coconut cream, ice and a blender are basic, but its important that you choose a good rum for it. Do not use aged, dark or spiced rum. For me it only works with two brands of rum. Don Q cristal rum (the best by far!) or use Coconut flavored Bacardi, I dont like it with regular Bacardi rum.
