Salams Muslimah..

Think this is more like Ramadan... it is what we call "high seasons" .. no matter how many times you remind people of this remark that they should care all year long for the needy and poor , always there will be high and low seasons,
you know what I actually think? I think they were intented by God to be so ..

it is true that christmans is commercialized through business. there is nothing evil with that!
what is the wickedness of materialism is that men seek unto Owning MORE things and Toys than acknowledging God and the sacrifice of the saviour. it takes commerce to make an economy flourish. it takes buying and selling to FEED people in whatever economy you live in.
If you can afford to give ALL year round! than indeed God has blessed you enough. Some people can barely pay the rent all year round.
i think the kingdom of God when it says that you can buy BREAD without money means that all things are provided as one has need. Wouldnt it be a better place to live if it was a guaranteed RIGHT to have a place to live? But if you have a place to live How many hours would you have to work on trying to build other peoples Homes in order to justify living in the home you have?
One of the best things a person can give their money to, instead of their Time is to the Homeless missions.
If you give to missions designed to FEED and House the homeless and downtrodden, you feed people and keep people warm who have fallen on hard times and seek a way to start over.
Jesus did command Peter to feed his sheep 3x.
what are the other 2 interpretations of what he meant

You must be very insulated to not know of all the giving organizations giving year around.

Have you ever heard of Christian Children's Fund? That is to name only one among many. The people of the good ole USA are so loving and giving the whole world should be aware.

Believe me go poll the folks who have been fed, clothed, etc.

And it is not just around the world! We give to the hungry and unclothed in our country constantly!

It does upset me when I am in the market and see a morbidly obese woman and three or so kids well on their way to morbid obesity, paying with food stamps! Their cart will be full of sodas, chips, candy, sugary cereals, Don't see apples or bananas? Seems to me some of the giving should be in teaching good health habits huh?

Guess you really got me fired up.

Many people do. At Christmas, I look at it as not only part of the celebration, but in many parts of the world, it's the coldest time of year. Shelter and warm clothes are far more essential in the dead of winter. So, it's not a bad time if people choose to help only once a year.

Good point! The giving and sharing that mark Christmas should be year round. For myself, I am a Heathen, and part of our folkfaith is gift-giving year round. It is a way to show our friends and community that we care.

Excellent question. I may be wrong, but I kind of get the feeling that you have a better idea, than any of your first 20 answerer's, what giving really means, and what sharing really means.

That's one reason I don't make a big deal out of exchanging gifts with my husband. He gives to me year round! Little things, like bringing me food or a candy bar. He doesn't need to torture himself shopping to prove anything to me.
