I give out Christmas cards only to those people I really care about. I write meaningful stuff inside and I don't let Hallmark do the talking for me. For Christmas gifts, I don't attach cards anymore I just use Post-its so they'll know whom it's from.

Everybody throw's away there Christmas cards in January. Not just people you hardly ever talk to or don't know. Because its not Christmas anymore. People mainly keep up their Christmas cards from the time they get them to maybe the latest New Year's. Sometimes not even that late. Maybe a week after Christmas. And the point is to show them that you respect them.

Usually there are Woodland Trust recycling bins in stores (Tesco, WHSmith, Boots) shortly after xmas so that you can feel more responsible. Yes, it is just a tradition that people have got used to after years of mindless consummerism. Don't forget though, it keeps people in employment and a lot of charities benefit from sales of cards. Don't forget that a lot of people don't get the chance to see each other all the time as they live far away from each other and its nice for you to let them know you are thinking of them, but yes it is a bit excessive when people give you cards when you see them every day and don't usually have a conversation with them. If you feel this strongly about it, make a statement that you would prefer not to receive them.

Sometimes something as small as a card can help people bond - because most colleagues don't give cards to every 1. so it can also be a way of letting the person know that you like them as a colleague.
Also its a good way of gettin into the xmas spirit - if ur into it that is.

I cut mine up an make them into gift tags for next christmas. I like having them on display at home too, makes the top of the telly look festive!
As long as Xmas cards are recycled responsibly, there's no harm.

In other words send you things, not sentiment. Ahhhh Christmas, it certainly reveals the Philistines.
Clearly these horrid people sending greetings are just a disappointment to you. Dash off to the printer, have post cards made up that say you are only interested in hearing from them when they attach a gift or cash to their Christmas cards, otherwise bugger-off.
Soon you'll not be burdened by unsolicited Christmas cheer!

Because it is a nice feeling. I like to give and recieve cards it makes it much nicer at work than the usual daily grind we go through the rest of the year. They are a way to communicate, they look nice, and in my family we string them up as part of the decorations. I like the Christmas spirit - we have the rest of the year to be miserable in.

I often wonder myself, i guess it a way to express love during the yuletide season. i don't have much attachment for cards too but i keep them for at least two years. Shows you respect the person that sent it.

i totally agree. they are just a nusiance, cluttering up the place and there is no point. people you care about and in your life will see you and its nicer to express it face to face. anyone else it s a waste. we all decided years ago instead of spending all that dosh on cards and stamps. we just make a donation to a charity instead. then a least someone worthy will benefit from the commercialised buisness of sending cards!!!!! instead of shops and retailers

becasue by january christmas and new year are out of the way they have served their purpose of wishing you a happy christmas and new year. you`ve found out what your freinds and relatives did last year so its time to move on. if you are that concerned about it why not just ring them all up and say happy christmas
