Muslims invented prostration? There are plenty of good postures in Yoga.

Performance of your Salat perfectly is important because it is what God has asked us to do and we should do it for that reason alone. Any other benefits from that are purely coincidental to that main purpose.
There is also a spiritual meaning to this. The word for this prayer in Arabic is "salat" which literally means "to connect". Thus when we are in the prostration position the heart is above the head and our connection through God is through our hearts. The mind, which can often trick and fool us, is then given a lower position than the heart.
Lastly, we do not "bang" our heads on the ground as has been suggested above. The movements of the Salat prayers are graceful and gentle when done correctly. There is no banging but rather a reverent feeling of humbling ones self before God your creator. Humility is good for you.
And Allah knows best.
Peace and Blessings,
Imam Salim

All religions were aware about the need for stretching, bending and exercising and most of the practises followed in all religions offer some sort of exercise and concentration techniques. The bowing practise of the Buddhists, the kneeling practise with Christianity and some other religions, the Sun-procrastination of Hindus are all exercises of some sort.

Yoga stretches. Salute the Sun ect. Some churches really get moving when they sing. Anything that stretches the spine and other body parts in the opposite direction that they are usually in is a good thing.

Prostrating yourself in front of anything is a sign of a flawed character and lack of backbone. Stand up straight, and bow to nothing and no-one. To do anything else is undignified.
